Springboks beat Pumas in rugby Test

By News / Wire

South Africa scored five tries as they thumped hosts Argentina 41-23 in the Rugby Championship, punishing the indiscipline which cost the Pumas a red card for lock Tomas Lavanini.

The victory, the Springboks’ first away after four home wins this season, has South Africa leading the competition on points differential and level with title holders New Zealand on nine points after two rounds.

Australia have one point and Argentine none.

Flanker Siya Kolisi ran in two tries with flyhalf Elton Jantjies and replacement forward Jean-Luc du Preez scoring the others while the Springboks were also awarded a penalty try in Salta.

Jantjies kicked 14 points for a personal tally of 19.

Wingers Ramiro Moyano and Matias Moroni scored tries for the Pumas, who lost Lavanini and Juan Manuel Leguizamon to the sin bin and had Lavanini sent off for a deliberate knockdown, his second yellow card offence, 23 minutes from the end.

I know, I was just being a bit sarcastic. Imhoff is not a "has been" either, expect that he can't play for the Pumas as long as he stays outside of Argentina.

Pollard hasn't played any competitive rugby this season, can't see how he is an option

Though Carlos I would definitely not put Lambie in the has been category . Would have made the Bok squad were it not for that horrific tackle by CJ Stander in the previous Irish series . He has since struggled with health issues..Hopefully temporary . One almost forgets that Patrick is only 27 years old . It is just that he has been playing top rugby for such a long time now that we seem to think he is older . IMO he was just hitting his prime when the unfortunate happened . A great guy and I personally wish him well.

This dude Dan Carter plays there. As well as Imhoff and a few other international stars...like Tameifuma (or Big Ben). Then you have Albacete and Carizza, Tuitavake and Laulala, Rocokoko... so you see, a bunch of "has beens"....

Country Boy: I'm not sure Hougaard passed his test this weekend. I think it may be Cronje-Paige at 9. Both have pretty snappy passes. Also, I don't think anyone has punched a hole in Serfontein this season. He's been the puncher. Now, if he can find a few more offloads...

@DavSA Yes, a good team creates 8, 9, 12 more chances, and converts half of them into tries or penalties. This is what I'm happy about: the Boks are building great attack structures, and then allowing backs or loose forwards to step and score after good passes. Not relying on maul.

2017-08-28T16:00:10+00:00

Will be? The centre pair aren't poor, they are both quality players, they just haven't sparked yet. You don't know whether Elton will be more pressured because it very much depends which Aussie defenve rocks up. The Springboks have a better tight 5, should rule scrums and line outs with Cassim we have a third option at line out time, our back row isn't big, but they are mobile and physical. If the Aussies are going to target weakness in defence it will be out wide.

Suzie, there are +- 200 thousand Saffers in Perth - the Boks might feel like they are at home.

Hey Bakkies, you are right up to a point. However, Elton will be even more pressurised, so he is likely to miss more. Bok centre pairing is poor - I'm afraid that the Wobblies will punch holes through these two, particularly from turnover ball. Hougaard's looped passes will result in an intercept try. That said, the scrum and lineouts will be interesting, I think the Boks may have the upper hand here. Cheers.

If we fix the scrum I think the Wallabies are 60-40 favourites, if we scrummage like Saturday night you've got to say the Boks are clear favourites.

Yes I agree on that Harry . I have been particularly hard on the Boks in my criticisms . But sooner or later I also have to start giving due credit . Think the Aussie scrum is going to be more than a little nervous prior to Perth.
