Jack Watts traded from Melbourne Demons to Port Adelaide Power for pick 31.
Brendon Ah Chee and Port Adelaide Power’s 2018 fourth-round pick traded from Port Adelaide Power to West Coast Eagles for West Coast Eagles’ 2018 third-round pick.
There’s only three more days of trading left and still plenty to be done after only five deals have been done in the trade period so far.

Yesterday saw one more trade done with Adam Saad joining Essendon in exchange for the Dons’ 2018 second-round pick.
It means Essendon have secured two of their three targets this offseason and how have only Jake Stringer left that they need to land.
Both parties appear to be playing chicken a bit on that deal though, and truth be told I don’t expect it to be formalised until Thursday.
However one other big piece of news was Lachie Weller making the decision to request a trade to Gold Coast, turning down a four-year extension from Fremantle.
Fremantle have reportedly already requested Gold Coast’s pick 2 in exchange for him, which is so laughably ridiculous as to make you wonder if list managers should be drug tested.
The most likely result instead would be a three-team deal that sees Fremantle gain both Nathan Wilson and Brandon Matera while dealing Weller to Gold Coast – with the Suns giving the Giants something to satisy them for the loss of Wilson.
We also heard former North Melbourne skipper Andrew Swallow say he’d be happy to take a trade to Gold Coast, and North Melbourne formally confirmed that they’re happy to make a deal.
So that one appears now to largely depend on whether or not Gold Coast decide they want him – it’d make sense for them if they want a mature, experienced leader to help their youth develop.

Darren M, I'm sure if a deal could be contstructed that Melbourne were happy with and the money offered to Hogan was right then he would not say no. I know its a big if, but Freo have to keep trying to land a good big key forward like Hogan given they have not been able to develop one in house.

SportsFanFC, Players springing trade requests during the trade period isn't the right way to go. And then saying that if a deal can't be done then they will leave anyway at the end of their contract only adds salt to the wound. Maybe its symptomatic of the deeper problems at Freo but it is not something that Freo should be prepared to accept. And people quoting the fact that he didn't get in the top 10 at Freo's fairest and best this year only makes you think that perhaps some people have been thinking about this move for a while. Where he finished in this years awards at Freo isn't really relevent. The fact is he is a robust, talented, fast player whom any AFL side would like to have on their list and would be in their top 22. Freo need to stick to their guns and make sure they get a fair deal for Lachie Weller (i.e about pick 10) or its no deal. In which case he can play next year in the WAFL and Gold Coast can pick him up on the cheap at the end of next year.

Dalgety- given 2 isn't worth much- what would it take for you to trade Freo's first pick this year?

Watts is THE bargain of the trade period. Watts and Charlie Dixon with Robbie Gray, Motlop and a powerful support cast will definitely produce a goal or two. Still a pretty fragile back half.

Yep and that idea is supported by "champion data" which I have demonstrated a legitimate reason why it is inaccurate - if the opinion is supported by inaccurate data it is inaccurate itself. AS I said way back "Champion Data stats are far from the best method of evaluating the draft talent"

"where do you get the idea that pick 2 isn’t that valuable this year?"

Dalgety "after you first made the wrong interpretation"? When did that happen? I asserted the top 4 or 5 players are as good as any year, which is pretty common consensus outside you and champion data, you offered up Champion data as a reason for your opinion, I offered a reason why champion data is inaccurate - "their body of work to date" has been significantly impacted by injury. Everything I have said is perfectly legitimate. The area where it gets fizzy is your claim that every other year has been impacted in the exact same manner by injury without any evidence. The debate only doesn't go anywhere because your can't comply with my simple request "Do you have any evidence for that". It is no coincidence that you started playing the man at the exact moment you couldn't support your argument.

It's quibbling (after you first made the wrong interpretation) and this is true to form for you Macca, hence it's legitimate to play the man because the debate will go nowhere but down a rabbit hole. I will say this the Champion Data ratings were based on a broad body of work, which included their u16's and TAC Cup or colts/reserves/state league games. The impact of those injuries would be moderated by the averages. But that is still just data based support for what seems to be a common view that this year isn't rated as highly as other years.

Dalgety - of course injuries happen but it is also incredibly common that players don't get injured. I have offered a logical explanation for why Champion data might be inaccurate - ie 2 of the top 4 players had season ending injuries and a third played with a broken hand for a large number of weeks - and in fact the recruiters opinion that the top 5 this year is actually pretty strong is accurate. It is hardly "quibbling" to ask you to support your assertion that it "happens every year". But again, that would require you to admit you may be wrong so instead you play the man.

I hear you Darren. Watts was close with the previous coach - Roos. Not so with Goodwin. I guess we should respect - a change at the top will bring fresh judgement on all players. Hope he goes well at Port. To be that cool in front of goal as Watts is, takes a very calm personality. That personality is obviously frustrating for Goodwin. And his weaknesses outweighed his strengths - according to the coach. But players who can finish in front of goals like Watts are hard to find!

A small distinction to make, the fourth-round pick that has gone to West Coast along with Brendon Ah Chee is the one that belonged to Hawthorn which Port acquired in the Jarman Impey trade.

Some sort of permutations like that is probably Gold Coast's best way out of this Mattician6x6. They'll probably look to bundle up a few good second rounders and maybe something back the other way to put the points value to Freo somewhere in the reaches of the 7-10 range.

Oh yeah, injuries never happen, just like you never come across overly rigid nit-pickers looking to quibble on internet chat boards.

I agree that the players that port have got on paper look to improve them but yes it is a gamble ( watched wce go all in after 2015 with no reward) Yes all 3 could flop next year but Darling has a defensive workrate the other two lack but I do think public expectations on all 3 is a bit out of whack on the reality.

Absolutely agree Josh, its a good strategy from the AFL. The NRL on the other hand is only mentioned in the off season when its players get into trouble.

My feeling dalgetty is Freo, in pick 13 and matera out weller GC, in Weller out 2 x picks in 20-30 range + matera Wce, in 2 x picks in 20-30 range out pick 13. Thoughts on that freo fans?

Is that an "artists impression" of Watts?
