Match preview:

The Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar are both desperate to escape from the lower reaches of the A-League table when they meet on Saturday. Join The Roar for live scores from the match at Westpac Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 5:35pm AEDT.

Neither of these sides is having a particularly good time of it so far in the 2017-18 A-League season, and after three games played each they boast no wins and only one draw between them.

The Phoenix sit in eighth spot and although they haven’t snagged a win just yet they might not be too disappointed with their performances so far, given the quality of the opposition they have come up against.

They snagged a draw with Adelaide United in the first week of the new season, 1-1, before suffering close losses to last year’s champions Sydney FC (3-2) and this year’s leading team on form Melbourne City (1-0).

Brisbane on the other hand can make few excuses at they sit at the bottom of the table with three losses and not a point to their name, having lost to Melbourne City (2-0), Adelaide United (2-1) and last week the Newcastle Jets (2-1).

There’s a long way to go of course between here and the end of the year but at this stage both sides are some distance off the pack of teams challenging for finals spots and have some work to do to make up ground on them, though obviously the Phoenix’s form is at least mildly encouraging.

Brisbane, on the other hand, seem to be really suffering from the loss of Jamie Maclaren and are in dire need of a turnaround.

Prediction
At home, expect Wellington to get their first win of the season.

Wellington Phoenix 1-0.

Stevo - Quiet???? with 2 goals being gifted to Roar by goalkeeping errors ,there is not much to be said.that hasn't been said before, Roar still has a problem when it comes to turning ball superiority into self made goals. The one thing to emerge from this game was the contribution from Khalfalla proving he may yet play an important part in this team. Whether it will be as a left winger is a matter of opinion. Phoenix also have a problem. Playing in a league as one of the "battlers" , it is not the place to be giving a seventeen year old goalkeeper experience. Cheers jb.

Should not give up a 3-0 nil lead, protecting the lead before halftime cost them, and to many turnovers. They look slick for short periods but can't control possession.

How does Jade North not get a yellow for jumping on foot of one of my favourite HAL players Roy Krishna. For heaven's sake refs, please protect players from ugly tackles. How are we going to encourage ball players when they get little protection.

Correct, I got a bit animated about the slip over which had nothing to do with Vidosic but Roar got a free. I must calm down and drink some beer. Just tuning up for the next game :)

Is this a case of refs relying on technology to make the decision for them? Not got any vision btw but I didn't think the VAR covered this scenario ;-)

Where's VAR when you need it! Absolute non-free kick to Roar outside the Nux box. Please refs do us a favour.

Wow, 3-0 at 20 minutes to the 'nix - press is going to have a field day on Aloisi's job this week if the score blows out.
