Jarryd Hayne reportedly wants to leave the Gold Coast Titans just a few months after triggering his option for another $1 million season with the NRL club.
UPDATE: Jarryd Hayne has denied today’s reports
Original story follows
News Corp says Hayne’s agent Wayne Beavis has told the Titans he is looking for opportunities elsewhere and claims he wants to return to Sydney, mostly for personal reasons.
The codehopper’s bombshell comes just months after a reported spat between himself and coach Neil Henry saw the latter sacked in an effort to keep Hayne happy.
Hayne’s brief tenure with the Titans proved to be a tumultuous one, with the former Eel failing to cross the line in any of his nine appearances for the club in 2016 and, although he scored eight tries in 2017, the club still finished second-last.
Rumours persisted that Hayne’s work ethic was much lower than that of his teammates, with his desire to train reportedly dependent on whether a ball was present.
For a man on $1.2 million a season – the most expensive individual contract in the NRL – that rubbed many teammates the wrong way.
No news has emerged as to which Sydney club Hayne is looking to join, although he is also apparently considering a switch to rugby union.
Gold Coast CEO Graham Annesley told the Sydney Morning Herald today’s news “completely blindsided [him].
“There’s been no request for a release, as far as we’re concerned he is a Titans contracted player,” he said.
The Titans released an official club statement on the matter, it reads;
“In response to extensive media reporting this morning, the club makes the following points:
1. Jarryd Hayne is contracted to the Titans for the 2018 season.
2. The Titans have not been in negotiation with any other club regarding the future of Jarryd Hayne.
3. There has been no application made for Jarryd to be released from his Titans contract.
4. It is the Titans expectation that Jarryd will return for pre-season training after his World Cup commitments with Fiji, and his annual leave entitlements, have been completed.
5. The club will not be making any further comment on the matter unless any of the above circumstances unexpectedly change.”

I know his not perfect, I never said that ,but I remember watching league shows ,most of the hosts and guests we're bagging him through rumours,no facts. Look there will be things he'd done wrong, but . if I was him I'd be litigious too(hes human ,and probably had enough after the hundredth time), especially when people don't know much and they make big deals over rumours and what other people said about him that could be far worse than the truth, its happened to plenty others.

French rugby? Sacre bleu! Japanese rugby? 神聖なたわごと! or "Shinseina tawagoto!", English interpretation, "holy $hit!" Might happen in 2019.

Twiggy's new comp...? Doubt that will happen and if on the outside chance it did, in about two or three years, players of no real significance, with no real interest.

I could tell you a few things about him but hear he is a litigious man!!! Not too hard to find out about the guy if you want to open your eyes and ears. Of course he is in Hillsong so he must be a saint like all the others.

The wanting to come back to Sydney thing is a furphy. Just like Tippett saying he wanted to go home to Old and ending up at the swans for big money. (And what a waste of money that was!!!) Doh

Your jokin aren't you DJ? This soap opera (amongst many others) keeps the NRL on news programs (TV, Radio, Print, etc., even on online like sites like this) that helps with exposure, that helps with viewers for games/payers of subscriptions, etc.) that assists with the overall media deals with the NRL. Gotta love the Haynes, Cronks, Pearces and co. for keeping the NRL interest high in the off season. Well supported by the so far brilliant RLWC and hopefully the occasional scandal in the off-season.

Should go to the Broncos and play under Wayne.

Just about every player Manly has signed in the last couple of years were considered highly dubious by most. Uate heads the list of players signed from reserve grade based on nothing more than his talent. Luckily the Eagles thought he was as good as his next game and not his last as the cliche goes. One try he scored up thru the middle beating the fullback with one of the best steps you could ever see sticks in my memory. I'd be fascinated to see what Hayne could do at the Eagles and recent history is on our side of having a good result. The thing that worries me is sort of Carney type attitude of "such is life type" Ned Kelly philosophy where your impact on others doesn't seem to matter. It seems he needs to be in a good team to do well and the Eagles aren't so bad. Has to be cheap though.

You are so right , we don't know it could be all lies. Also I wonder if all the other news of Hayne we've heard could be way off in facts also. OK if he has an ego ,so what most players and people do. For all we know he's a bad trainer (ex-team mates) ,but apart from that we don't know if it was his fault seven coaches left ,they may have been useless. Of all the coaches who got sacked how many are doing well . also gold coast had plenty of meetings with players and staff and then they decided to get rid of Henry ,maybe they thought he wasn't good enough , I don't see many clubs chasing him.hayne isn't a saint, obviously his attitude isn't that great . none of us know what really goes on ,but we hear a few rumours and allegations than we jump on peoples backs, easy to do . come on the media needs to sell news, don't get too sucked in,calm down.

No, if he ants to leave because he misses Sydney, he won't go to Perth.

Regardless of talent - Hayne is one player I would not wish at my club. He has now seen-off 7 coaches. It's difficult to imagine a club with a strong enough culture and leadership to keep this bloke in-line - Melbourne included. The ultimate individual is a poor fit in such a team environment. I would be staggered if his career ends well and free of controversy.

Both Hayne and Sam Burgess have come back to the game lesser players than they were. They had to adapt their physiques to NFL and rugby which they seemed to do ok, but now, back in league, they don't seem to have the same explosive x-factor as they did before they left.

It is funny how many people slam Phil Rothfield and the Daily Telegraph for their muck raking and highly inaccurate reporting, but the minute it is a story about Hayne, The Telegraph becomes the NY Times and faultless despite a) The Gold Coast saying they have not been approached by Hayne and b) despite Hayne saying clearly he has no intention of leaving. And its funny how so many say Hayne is all about the money, then think he is determined to break a contract and leave the Titans which would cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars.... Just funny...

Yeah I don’t see him as a successful transition to rugby at this stage if his career. Not really suitable for inside centre, would be all at sea defensively at outside centre, could be good in the back 3, but there is an endless production line of “Fijian Flyers” at half the price for wing, and he would still have things to learn for fullback.

Agree James, you don’t want him at the Tahs. Apart from being a poor fit culturally, I don’t see him being value for the money he is likely to want.

What a talent ,but the attitude has stopped him so far from being one of the best. On form, he has played well in more positions than many great players. What he did in the NFL was pretty good. Thousands of talented players each year miss out on playing NFL and they've played that game all their lives. The coach got sacked because even the players that played NFL couldn't understand his plays, and the new coach was looking to with him and was supprised when he said he's going to play sevens, bad judgement ,this Fiji team was the fittest I had ever seen in the modern era ,they won the final with ease ,hayne was too big for sevens ,couldn't lose weight quick enough or in time. Wasted talent, and its mostly his fault.

If Titan's don't have to pay him for leaving this could be a godsend for them. A very lucky break considering what they have been through since his signing.
