It has been widely reported by the world’s rugby media that Michael Cheika muttered some dodgy words under his breath while in the stands during Australia’s last match against England at Twickenham.
The issue here is not whether or not Cheika actually said anything or more importantly what he said.
Apparently he may face disciplinary action because of it. This is a load of rubbish, why are we lip reading people in stadiums?
What Cheika said or did not say is largely irrelevant as he did not say it to anyone’s face or in the company of anyone who was deserving of his words. There is an old question lurking around the internet that goes something like ‘If a tree falls down in a remote place and no one is there to witness it, did it make a noise?’
The answer is obvious to most but when you think about it a little longer you realise that the answer is not actually that clear.
The fact of the matter is that people as in the case of Mr Cheika should quite frankly whisper, mutter or even think whatever he wants, if he thinks the ref is a chop then let him say it to himself.
Should he make the mistake of telling the world in an audible tone that the masses that matter can hear, then it is 100 per cent a different story.
Don’t worry Mr Cheika, there is nothing wrong with what you did and those that think there is are not worthy of engagement.

Yes...why some make it so complex is beyond me...just play by the rules. What if everyone acted like Cheika?,...players, coaches, Refs- all at once. It'd be a real hoot this game.

with TV comming into the scene, coaches also have had to make adjustments in their behavior. football seems to tolerate all kinds of crazy antics , and even most american games too go this way. yes they do, but the BEST coaches don't act a fool. Seeing as you brought up American games, think of the great NFL coaches over the years. Yes there have been some sideline antics and silliness, but the top coaches, your Landrys and Lombardis never lost their cool. For a modern take, consider Bill Belichic - never looks fazed, always gives the impression he is in control. Graham Henry and now Steve Hansen are the same - you occasionally get a half smile out of Hansen after a try, but the most emotion he usually shows during a game is to jot something down.

Or lack of them (or enough) in the Saracens side?

They were the better side, because they gifted many of the Scot points through silly errors, yet scored their own. That Scotland were ripped off is a separate issue. Joubert made an incorrect call, as confirmed by World rugby, so the penalty decision was incorrect. Those are the facts.

No mate it's quite simple. Just don't use foul language and don't call rugby officials "cheats". Simple. Especially when you are the coach of Australia. All coaches, players and fans are emotionally charged during tense games.

So Cheika's mate why did a member of the crowd have a go at him when he was walking down the stairs with his bouncer?

slangevar Jock, I'm neither Scott nor Aussie. I wasn't lucky enough to be there, but did watch the game live with several of your countrymen and quite a few token Wallabies. The consensus was 100% in the room Scotland were ripped off. To say that Wallabies were the better side all day is a stretch considering the game was decided by a dubious call. I could be wrong, but the pressure that came down on Craig Joubert forced his retirement. Anyway my comment was more point at Cheika, the way he carries on when he thinks the game is rigged pretty sure he hasn't lost a game with that muck controversy.

The fact of the matter is that people as in the case of Mr Cheika should quite frankly whisper, mutter or even think whatever he wants, Gavin the issue is that he didnt do that...he said it in front of thousands of people 100% KNOWING he had cameras on him
