Match preview:

Australia and England will conclude their five-game ODI series with a match that may be most remembered for debuting a new colosseum in Perth. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match at Optus Stadium on Sunday, starting from 2:20pm AEDT.

Well, the less said about this series from an Australian perspective the better, but just for information’s sake let’s run through it nice and quickly.

It’s been a travesty really – in the first three matches Australia looked competitive at stages but could never quite get the work done when it counted.

As a result England went up 3-0 seemingly with ease and claimed a series win, a small piece of revenge for them after a comprehensive loss in the Ashes that Aussie fans will be surely reminding them of if they get too uppity about ODI results.

Australia did strike back in a big way in the fourth match at Adelaide Oval with some devastating bowling early leaving the Poms with five wickets gone for just eight runs and really from a position like that, Australian victory was inevitable.

It maybe wasn’t won in as dominant a form as you could dream of given what a small total the Australians had to chase – less than 200 – but a win is a win, and the Aussies would gladly take one after their start to the series.

Another win here would give the home side at least some small level of comfort that their problems in the 50-over form of the game may not be terminal, though it is fair to say that with the series already decided this match is something of a dead rubber.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect is that we’ll get an up close and personal look at the new Optus Stadium with its first major sporting event here today before it becomes a regular on our TVs in the 2018 AFL season to come.

Deserves to be tried atleast once more in LOI on the back of bbl and Jlt performances. Last year best batsman in ipl was hashim amla with 2 hundreds, 2 high end fifties, avg 60. Str rt 145... Not picked this season, similarly guptill, root and other good players were also not picked. So ipl non-selection proves nothing. Not existent players like negi and kl rahul get highest deals in ipls.

Smith in his last 10 innings is averaging 24 at a strike rate of 74. Absolutely terrible from your 1st or 2nd drop. Maybe he needs to start "training smarter", look at what he's doing. Australia have lost 12 out of 14 now and Smith has been a big reason for that. Not just for his weak efforts with the bat, but dropped catches and strange tactics in the field. And people tried to argue that Kohli wasn't the best batsman in the world. Kohli averages over 50 in all forms of the game.

With Smith it's not just his poor average but his even poorer strike rate. He chews up balls and puts pressure on those below him.

Exhausted = unprofessional. Rubbish excuse for another rubbish performance by some over paid players who should not be there If your exhausted playing for your country, maybe you shouldn't be playing for your country.

Starc, Warner, Smith appear to just not care. Unprofessional performance. An international bowling no balls when taking wickets.... unprofessional. Starc again has ticker problems You have more chance of being kicked by a snake, than Warner getting dropped back to local park cricket Lyon is our best spinner, not (whoever they have in this week) Jason Taylor would be a better coach than Darren Lehmann That kid, Carey looks the good. Pity, pain didn’t need another so-called rest

Certainly took the shine off our test series win. The poms played well and deserved their victory. Our top order batsmen, notably warner and Smith went walkabout and no doubt were counting the 2.4 million each will get for 6 weeks work in the IPL.

The England test players look just as exhausted but those 3 you mention have performed along with Woakes. Maybe the pressure of trying to win the Ashes at home, who knows.

Absolutely Maxwell should cop it. That was a pathetic shot. Australia needed 70 odd runs off 90 odd balls at 5 down and Stoinis had been dismissed 3 runs earlier. How about nudging it around for a while? Instead he tries to smash a perfect length ball hitting top of middle and leg over the top of mid off. Morgan set the trap and he was dumb enough to oblige. Brainless I’m sorry. If you want to see a worse shot, have look at his previous dismissal for Australia in India which is the reason he was dropped in the first place. The bloke hasn’t learnt a thing.

True, but I think they put so much physically and mentally into the Ashes there isn't anything left in the tank. All of the test players from both teams look exhausted.

He did show why he shouldn’t have been dropped for white. He scored more runs in one game than his 3 games and fielded brilliantly. He should have batted at 3 where he has scored all his runs.

Warner not great. The biggest problem is Smith He is not a good tactical captain and seems to be only suited to test match batting.

not sure.. no. 6 batsmen.. 34.. not a good dismissal.. had a cracking chance to show why the selectors have been wrong.. as for warner less said the better.. he is teflon for some reason..

Maxwell played just one match in the series, and made 34, it's Warner and Smith who should be copping the blame for this series loss - between them they made just 175 runs at an average of 17 for the series.

Josh as you say it ends in Paine for the Aussies and congrats to the Poms, over the next few days would like to see your summary of the whole 1 day series and player ratings out of 10 would be great

Yeah these kookaburra balls are real strange atm. Stopped conventionally swinging after 1.4 overs then started reversing after 16. They must just wear really quickly
