NRL team list Tuesday live blog: Round 4 - all 16 teams named

By Scott Pryde / Expert

Some big casualties headline the chatter around team list Tuesday for Round 4, with the Perith Panthers and Newcastle Knights set to be heavily impacted. Join The Roar for all the live updates and news and then the team lists for Round 4 from 3:30pm (AEDT).

Nathan Cleary and Connor Watson – halves for the Panthers and Knights respectively – are both expected to be in for long stints on the sideline.

Cleary picked up a grade three MCL and is set to be out for ten weeks, while Watson went down with a shoulder injury in the Knights’ loss to the Roosters and is expected to miss up to 12 weeks.

The Broncos also took a hit last week, with Corey Oates and in-form prop Tevita Pangai Junior both set to miss two weeks with a hip and hamstring injury respectively.

The Parramatta Eels, who have scored just four points in their last two games, are also going to be without Jarryd Hayne for between two to four weeks after suffering a hip flexor injury. In better news for Brad Arthur’s men, Bevan French is rated a 50-50 chance of making his return in what would be a direct replacement.

In better news around the competition, the Tigers are expected to be able to play Benji Marshall after he suffered an ankle injury against Brisbane. With Josh Reynolds’ return pushed back another week, that shapes as a huge boost for Ivan Cleary’s men.

In other positive news, Simon Mannering is due back for the Warriors, Lachlan Coote should play his first game of the season for the Cowboys and Felise Kaufusi is also due back for the Storm.

Matt Moylan and Luke Lewis are both in a race against the clock to prove their fitness for the Sharks, while Raiders lock Joe Tapine could also make his return.

The only club with a seemingly clean bill of health heading into Round 4 are the St George Illawarra Dragons, who sit at the top of the table after a superb start to the season.

The injury to Connor Watson arguably strengthens the Knights team with Lamb starting.

Scar82 - you can't have two little blokes on the bench. Garvey should be the on the bench to replace Havilli and Sezer and Williams to stay in the halves for the whole game. This halves rotation with the hooking role is not necessary. Why can't Ricky see it? Bateman has to go as well - he's in effectual. I'm hoping Tapine is fit enough to come back.

Sticky needs to tighten up the middle defence. Three games and the defence was lacking big time in the middle of the park. So I Thot a second hooker to share the duties would have been good. Sezer drifts out to the left defence towards the end. They really need to have a strong middle when the game is on the line. They need garvey. I am a strong raiders supporter and hope this selection doesn't back fire. I would have hingano replacing Williams for his short kicking game and have garvey and Austin on the bench. Austin to play sort of lock and five eight. I reckon the players will backlash some where along the line. They had two hookers in baptist and hodgson and worked well. Both defended well through the middle as well Especially in tight matches back in 2016.

I think we really struggle without TPJ at the moment. Glad to see Pearson get a go. I really hope he kills it.

Peach being named at 6 in no way guarantees he will start at five-eighth. I expect Luai to start in place of peachey or otherwise peachey to play 20-30 mins before swapping with luai

Ricky still hasn't learned that he needs a back up hooker on the bench i.e Garvey. Sezer is not a hooker Ricky. I'll say it again - SEZER IS NOT A HOOKER! He wants to play 5/8 - leave him there. And Havilli needs to play more minutes. Get Havilli and GarVey to play 40 minutes. It's not that hard. Interesting that Austin isn't even named in the 17. Could be on the way out.

Big plus for the eels with Hayne not there to stuff their backline play, they'll improve by lengths. Give Jack Bird the benefit of a week using the rustiness excuse but didn't fancy his positional play in the centres.

No Jarryd Hayne for the Eels, who has been ruled out for between two and four weeks. George Jennings is in on the wing, while Will Smith will play fullback. Kaysa Pritchard is playing at hooker ahead of Cameron King while Peni Terepo and Tony Williams are on the bench with Suaia Matagi and Cameron King listed in the reserves.

It's a like-for-like replacement at the Knights with Brock Lamb to replace the injured Connor Watson. Chris Heighington is back onto the bench as well with Jack Cogger moving into the reserves.
