How to live stream Western Force matches in World Series Rugby

By The Roar / Editor

The inaugural season of World Series Rugby starts this Friday night with the Western Force taking on Fiji. The tournament will consist of nine games run over a three month period. This is The Roar’s full World Series Rugby live stream guide so you don’t miss a match.

World Series Rugby is the idea of Australian billionaire Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest, reviving former Super Rugby franchise the Western Force.

Forrest wants this to be the start of a new competition branching away from Super Rugby, where they will take on teams from Asia and use the competition to trial rules World Rugby want to experiment with.

World Series Rugby will be broadcast by Fox Sports and can also be live streamed. The opening game of the season on Friday, May 4 6:30pm (AWST) will pit the local Western Force against Fiji at nib Stadium in Perth.

Fox Sports will also be doing the live streaming for the World Rugby Series, the Western Force vs Fiji game will be able to be live streamed via the Fox Sports app.

The Fox Sports app is free to download but to get a Fox Sports Digital Subscription it’s $4.99 a month or $49 for 12 months.

This subscription gives you premium access to all Fox Sports videos and artices on the app and gives you the ability to live stream.

To be able to watch the matches you will first need Foxtel and to have purchased the sports pack. The sports pack on Foxtel is $29 a month which gives you access to all the Fox Sports channels as well as Fox Footy and Fox League.

The game will be telecast on Fox Sports More 507 starting at 8:30pm (AEST). The broadcast times and channels for other games will be released at later dates closer to the matches.

It was, on delay, which was good. Speaking of the match EFF and other Western Australians who were there, are we going to see an article on the experience for the Roar from over in your neck of the woods?

What are you talking about Sheek, post-try interview is cracking television! "Boys made," deep breath, "great momentum" deep breath, "through the middle", deep breaths, spits to the side, "made it easy," deep breath, "for me." Thankfully this has been tried before in rugby, and usually gets ditched pretty quick. Nice for the Force to have some rugby again.

Great to see the Force staying alive. But not everything about Twiggy's comp do I like. I like the 60 sec scrums & the throwing team tossing into the line out as soon as they're ready. But I'm no fan of the 7-point power try & even less a fan of the post-try interview. I don't even agree with the half-time interview! Still, it's a hybrid comp & I understand they're trying to see what the public will swallow, & what they won't. Progressive innovations are fine as long as they don't become gratuitous waffle.

I plan on switching over to 507 during half time in the Rebels game and give it a look. Depending on the spectacle and how the Rebels are going, might just stay watching it.

"might get RA interested in pushing for other rugby games (SR or local 1st grades) to be show on FTA." I guess it depends on how much it's costing. I'm keen to give it a watch, and for those not aware as it's not explicitly stated anywhere the delayed broadcast on 7Mate tonight AEST is 11pm. It'd be nice to see the teamsheet for Fiji though.....

Great to see Ch 7 and Fox, after their cricket get-together, now doing deals to show live broadcasts of other sports. The viewer numbers will be interesting once the initial dust settles, say 5-6 weeks. Good numbers might get RA interested in pushing for other rugby games (SR or local 1st grades) to be show on FTA. That's where ch10 fell down, they show ONE Super Rugby game involving an Aussie team at 8am Sunday and the highlights package called Extra Time late Monday night. Considering the animosity between ch10 and Foxtel, I would imagine that deal to move over to ch7 at season's end.

Additional to the above, Channel 7 is also televising around Australia at various times - Live in Perth and delays elsewhere. https://www.westernforce.com.au/world-series-rugby-inks-unprecedented-broadcast-deals-with-channel-7-and-fox-sports/
