It was a tough week for the Fremantle Dockers. They didn’t represent themselves too well at all against the Sydney Swans at the Sydney Cricket Ground losing by 59 points.

They had a decent start to the season, but the last few weeks they have seriously struggled. The well-documented drama surrounding Ross Lyon certainly hasn’t helped, but it shouldn’t have impacted the playing group too much.

In what was a dull night in Sydney for Fremantle, there were a few shining lights. Nat Fyfe continued his solid form racking up 28 disposals, while Lachie Neale also found plenty of it gaining 30 touches.

Michael Walters could have easily kicked a back with two goals and three behinds, so he will be looking to improve his accuracy come this time against the Kangaroos.

In team news for the Dockers, Stephen Hill and Danyle Pearce return to the side in favour of the omitted Mitch Crowden and Ryan Nyhuis.

As for North Melbourne, it was a convincing win down in Tasmania where they put the Greater Western Sydney Giants to the sword with a 43-point win.

The picture has changed this season for the Kangaroos. The thing to remember is they weren’t that poor last season, but lost a number of early games by under a goal which impacted the latter stages of the season.

When you get off to a good start you can build momentum and have finals at the back of your mind, and with that comes a drive and determination to succeed. They have that going into the middle period of the season this time.

Ben Brown just goes from strength-to-strength as he kicked five in the third quarter against the Giants to put the game to bed. Jarrad Waite was also impressive booting four, and he’s showing that he is in career-best form.

In team news this week for the Roos, Sam Durdin will play his first game of the season due to the decision to rest Majak Daw.

Prediction
Yes, the home ground advantage does suit Fremantle, but North Melbourne have proven they can travel interstate when they defeated the Sydney Swans only a few weeks back. It is also meant to be a bit damp, which make suit the contested nature of the Roos.

North Melbourne by 14.

By the way Slane, can you see any 'prediction' that anon made in that post? Freo will make the 8 this year. I'll be right. Even yesterday they played OK. Got to 3 points against NM when Sandi went off and that took Cox out of the forward line. Double whammy stopped the momentum. Hill, Bennell, Tabs to come back, Apeness now has games back and played really well this week and the kids to get more games under their belts. Only blue sky for Freo.

Where is that prediction? Not in that post. This is the anon who quoted Alex Pearce's poor disposal figures in 2016 as proof he was not an adequate key defender...unaware that Pearce had broken his leg and was no longer playing. Anon has no idea about the playing squad...or the available playing squad at Freo. Unlike anon, I stand by my predictions and own them...explaining them when the need to be explained. Anon, for instance has not yet responded to his many errors in last week's posts. He just pretends he said something else or crosses his fingers and hopes no one notices his made up stuff. Try again, anon, what have you got? There must be something. You reckon you've got a few right.

Anon's prediction that Fremantle won't make the 8 this season is a hell of a lot closer than your own prediction of a Freo Flag in 2018. And that's coming from somebody who tipped Freo to finish above the Eagles this season. In fact, if we only look at the end outcome, Anon gets more predictions about Fremantle right (despite talking out his backside), than you ever do. Dons prediction every year: Freo for the flag. Anons prediction every year: Freo won't win the flag. Pretty cut and dry really.

What have you predicted there? That Fyfe would break his leg and Freo wouldn't have the best midfield available? No. That Freo would be decimated by injury? No. In fact, you predicted nothing. You did state that Dawson and Ibbotson were under sized. That's not a prediction and, fir one of them, it was not true. You've got to do better than that. You've left out every reality. I challenge you to come up with a prediction that has become a reality.

https://www.theroar.com.au/2016/03/22/afl-preview-series-fremantle-dockers-dw/ Note that the author of the article predicted the Dockers to finish 2nd (hee hee!) anon said | March 22nd 2016 @ 4:19pm | ! Report Depending on on how you view things, either the unskilled Dawson or the undersized Ibbotson are Fremantle’s second best defender now. It’s a poor back line, but Freo have only their selves to blame. For several seasons now they have failed to trade for a key position player. It will be interesting to see how the risk averse, conservative, negative Ross Lyon will respond. The mentally and physically exhausting game plan simply doesn’t hold up against better teams. He’s trying to play a 2005 game plan in 2016. Lyon acknowledges that by bringing in two guys from the Hawthorn system who have no relevant coaching experience. Freo lost Kirk – who helped the midfield become number 1 for clearances – and replaced him with two guys with no experience and only claim to fame having been part of the Hawthorn system as players at some point. That smacks of desperation to me. Smacks of not wanting to be challenged by your assistants too. Freo has been annihilated by Hawthorn every time they have played them in the last two seasons. Last season Freo coughed up an 8 goal half time lead against the Swans early in the season. Swans got within 4 points before Freo did just enough to get a lucky win at home. Then in the QF, despite Freo resting the week before, despite Freo not travelling, despite the Swans having injuries to key players, the Swans outplayed Fremantle having 6 more scoring shots. Another lucky win. Eagles who are traditionally Freo’s bunnies even gave them a pasting late in the season. Richmond beat Freo at Subiaco last season, then outplayed them at the MCG having 6 more scoring shots (many easy shots too). So last season proved Freo don’t really have it, and since then they’ve lost McPharlin. Having such a stacked midfield, most coaches would probably utilise the attacking potential of those players, but given how thin they are in defence this season, Lyon will probably revert further into his shell and become more dependant on his structures. Lyon’s decision making is becoming increasingly bizarre. Bringing in two complete novice coaches to replace Kirk, wanting to move the best midfielder in the game out of the midfield, and wanting to move the best small forward in the game out of the forward line. All this seems desperate to me. Like he has no real plan. Lyon will never coach a team with a better midfield at his disposal. If he can’t win every midfield battle against premiership contenders with this all star midfield line up then he’s never going to beat them with is game plan.

I wonder if you can name...and post...one prediction you have made that has played out exactly as you predicted. You post-dict every occurrence and right now, there is no issue. They lost after a strong effort against one of the comps strongest sides. The reactions of some people after a game of footy. That was a good game with some really good performances. Every Freo comment you have made for 3 years has been wrong. Can you post one that has been right? I'll bet you can't meet that challenge. By the way, your comments about North are wrong too. Time to smell some roses, Mr Misery.

Fremantle make everything look like hard work. Nothing resembling a functioning game plan (as has been the case for three years now). Everything playing out at Fremantle and with Ross Lyon as I predicted before the season started in 2016. A football club that really stands for nothing. Exists as an experiment for Ross Lyon and his cronies.

I wore a crocheted purple octopus beanie to the game today. I looked like a complete nob. Somehow, the Dockers still managed to look worse. I mean, I thought I had no shame, but damn Freo...

Biggest disappointment is with losses to Suns, Demons and Power we probably had the chance to be a bit higher as well. Hopefully those 3 losses don’t come back to haunt us.

Full Time Another massive interstate win for North Melbourne as they proved too much for the Dockers. They weren't that efficient, but conditions didn't really allow them to be, especially in the second half. They move into the top eight! Fremantle Dockers: 8.10 (58) North Melbourne Kangaroos: 12.14 (86)
