Corey Norman fined $20,000 by Eels

By News / Wire

Corey Norman’s future at Parramatta is on a precipice after he was fined $20,000 for drinking while on the NRL club’s injured list.

The Eels on Wednesday said the 27-year-old had been issued a breach notice, after Norman posted pictures of himself consuming alcohol on social media.

“The Parramatta Eels club has been in discussion with Corey Norman and his management regarding a disciplinary matter, which resulted in a breach notice as part of our club’s disciplinary process,” CEO Bernie Gurr said in a statement.

“We consider this to be an internal matter between the player and the club and we will not be making any further comments.”

It’s understood the incident occurred several weeks ago while he was nursing an injury and is unrelated to the foot problem which will see him miss Saturday’s clash with Newcastle.

It has been reported Norman is out-of-favour with Eels management and the club would not stand in his way should he seek a release before his contract expires at the end of next year.

With the Eels last with just two wins, Norman has struggled to combine with halfback Mitchell Moses and was last week moved to fullback.

It’s been suggest the club is running out of patience after he was fined $20,000 and suspended for the final eight weeks of the 2016 season for a string of offences.

He was seen to be on his last warning after pleading guilty to drug possession after being caught with MDMA and another prescribed, restricted substance at The Star casino. His conviction was overturned on appeal.

He was also reprimanded for filming a lewd sexual act and drug use as well as consorting with criminals.

It's good to see Moses has brought another player down to his level.

larry, could not agree more. don't think the broncs were too bothered when he left - we may have missed/lost some real talent in the halves but no one is weeping about norman leaving. my first thought when reading this was the same as yours - our halves may be spluttering along a bit more than we'd wish at the moment but do not insert norman in there.

Well I did say in response to a MaryK article about her Eels frustrations that serial offender Norman teased, played up & underperformed at the Broncos so I was happy for him to be a parramatta problem instead of my club's. Funny you never see the stories about the Cam Smith's through to the Nathan Cleary's of this world being on the sauce while injured, reckon it's a fair bit to do with their upbringing, the well behaved ones don't have a sense of entitlement and appreciate how lucky they've been to get their footy dream opportunity. I'm sure if the eels punt him there'll be clubs lined up around the block to sign him, thinking they can change the attitude. Instead of dumping Corey, the best thing for him would be the rest of the season playing Intrust Cup footy with no prospect of a return to the parra NRL team. He might get his money but a blow to the ego might help him get some perspective on what he needs to do to earn that big contract money, on and off the field. p.s. Please Broncos, don't even think about it!

12 months ago, Norman was touted as being part of a great half/ five eight combination. Now look at him. He's done neither himself nor his Club any favours by this latest piece of stupidity. Not sure how Parra's supposed to improve when one of their senior players lacks simple discipline. My advice - get rid of him and move on.
