Match preview:

The Brumbies host the Hurricanes Saturday night at GEO Stadium, Canberra. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:45pm AEST.

This is the match between capital cities. Both Canberra and Wellington have a population of 400,000 people. Both teams beat each other three times over the last six games.

After 16 rounds, head coach Dan McKellar has had little success for the Brumbies in his first year as head coach. His team was embarrassed by both the two New Zealand teams they faced.

Chris Boyd’s Hurricanes has not met expectations. Like the Brumbies, they lost their last two games against their New Zealand teams. Before that, the Hurricanes almost lost to the bottom feeding Reds.

The Hurricanes will use this match to rebuild their form model by beating Brumbies convincingly. The Brumbies have a different idea. Two rounds ago, they surprised everyone by beating the Bulls in altitude.

A week later, they dominated both territory and possession to deliver another win against an enterprising Sunwolves.

A win today would be their first back-to-back win at home in two years.

The three things I hope to see is a foot race between Tom Banks and Nehe Milner-Skudder, the back five gain-line battle, and to discover if either teams can rediscover their form.

Prediction
The Hurricanes have won their first game after the June Tests for three years in a row. This will be the fourth – the bookies agree 4 to 1 against the Canberrans. But we should expect a more threatening Brumbies as they start to stabilise their own game model.

Mapu: Cuzzin' ~ There's one hell of an inquiry going on in Wellington commonly known as 'Caneland'. as the Selectors, old O'Brien and Plumtree are not at all amused and I can guarantee there'll be some big changes for the next game, ~ and that team is running around big time hour after hour as punishment for the loss to the Brumbies which was never meant to happen in any shape or form. They consider it an embarrassment as they'd have gone out to win that and do it easily but it looks as if they, (the Canes) went out for a picnic and grossly underestimated the Locals, or was it the six degrees temperatures, whatever, the Coaches of the Canes expected them to at least have a go and admitted they were flogged by the Referee, seemingly for any old reason at all, and another thing they're not happy about is the Yapping to the Referee by pretty much the complete Brumby' team and indicating to him to "penalty, yellow" and various other things! I don't know if they went out there full of complacence, but the Hurricanes played crap and they played against a Brumby team who also played crap but better crap than the visitors, that coupled with Pocock continually ''Holly wooding'' and committing unbelievable penalizable and questionable movements all day in the rucks and mauls getting off 'scot' free'! Normally the scheme of things between these two sides would be the usual bad loss to the Brumbies which as a rule the Canes would take them out nine times out of ten! This loss could very well mean the Hurricanes miss out for a final four spot and serve them right! Congratulations to the Brumbies as they haven't won much of note lately and let it be a wake up call for the Hurricanes who should be super fit after training this week!

Tman, I thought you were joking when you first posted this bizarre view. Seems you really meant it. Deeply biased view of what actually transpired - you may need a grease and oil and recalibration to continue to watch rugby

Tman, Peter described the Canes as ‘dirty and thuggish’ in that game, and then you responded with a compliment for Poey’s thespian skill. Well played. In a game of logic you might not ever bother the scorer.

He's carrying an arm injury. Pocock and Emmy are two words that should never be in the same sentence.

Is it so hard to imagine Brumbies beating Chiefs & Tahs away, while Rebels lose to Reds & Higlanders away and Sharks lose to Jaguares away? About as likely as Australia making the quarters in Russia, say 1 in 10. A bonus point last night might have helped.

Great game. Not perfect by any technical measure but free flowing and plenty line breaks and run meters. Also played in good spirit. TJ was smiling all night. I think was just enjoying being on the field again. Banks was sensational and I think the best back prospect in Australia at the moment. Speight and the defensive issues on the right edge seemed to be sorted although still looked a bit fragile. Make shift forward pack also performed well as did the line out. Set piece while not dominant was reliable. Rory Arnold was also heavily involved in general play. CLL while not having a great game was sufficient and steered the Brums around the park. Powell looked sharp and gave quick ball from the base although he should forget about trying to draw a penallty when interference inevitably occurs. Just get on with the game. Let the Ref do his job. I think this is the game most Brumbies supporters have been waiting all year for.

Yes it’s very true Fionn. Some very special people live in Wellington myself included. I did struggle with always being polite though but then I moved to Sydney and realised I was actually very well mannered. I lived in a desert by the beach. Sydney that is. Well done on the win (I suppose). No I do mean it.

the neck roll wasn't the worst act anyway. 2 that were ignored and not even a penalty. The driving him on his head that was totally ignored , ref said no force was used, they are worse than the high tackles that get a penalty or YC. However later Savea picked him up and flipped him feet past the vertical , a complete suplex , over his shoulder and landed him heavily on his back. That was a clear YC and not seen by AR's or TMO. Ref had moved on and was following play so not his fault.

Same way Bing that many knew Crotty, Barrett, Dagg etc etc was hollywooding or seriously injured and brought it up continuously here. When one of yours fowls all you care about is poor old Folau and the rules that need to be changed. Not the poor guys that end up on their backs injured like Dagg and Barrett. Oh, but when its one of yours, its all about poot old Pocock and the meanies. Agree with there being no consistency and thats the only reason Im bringing it up here. But theres certainly one group doing it more than others.

Geez even as a rusted on Canes man I not too upset at result, Brumbies were clearly better, Canes let themselves down a bit, but I think it is not going to do any harm to the comp to know that Aus teams are quite capable of knocking over kiwi teams. Along with Jaguares and Sunwolves results the I think it was good for the whole comp!

And you would know how? He gets targeted by foul play constantly and you’re trying to say it’s all an act? There’s no consistency with foul play at the moment and it all depends which team you play for.

Maybe it was acute pain at the time that then, you know, got better? That's the sort of thing that often happens with acute pain, bad for a few minutes and then goes away...
