Arzani's move to Celtic imminent: Rodgers

By News / Wire

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expects Daniel Arzani to join fellow Socceroo Tom Rogic at Parkhead imminently.

The 19-year-old playmaker completed his move to Manchester City from partner club Melbourne City on Thursday morning but is set to be farmed out to the Scottish champions.

Speaking at Celtic’s Lennoxtown training complex ahead of a trip to Hearts, Hoops boss Rodgers, who is also hopeful of completing the signing of former left-back Emilio Izaguirre in the next 24 hours, said: “He (Arzani) has completed on the Man City side, virtually most of it is completed on our side.

“He has been up here today so, like I say, we hope for that to complete over the next few days.

“He hasn’t done anything since his last game with Australia a little while back so he is going to have to come in and adjust and get up to speed before we can even consider him for a game.”

Looks as though Milligan will now joint Bozanic in the SPL, I think best solution is to ask them.

Sure Earn good money like rogic and play in a weak league and sit on the bench half the time Or earn good money and test yourself in the elf championship or erevidise and aim to play for Ucl team If I had rogic talent , I wouldn’t waste it in Scotland , and I have strong Scottish ancestors Sorry Stu , I love the country but the football is weak apart Celtic and Aberdeen and maybe Rangers I’d back A league teams like Sydney and Newcastle against most Scotland club teams . Enjoy this discussion Cheers

I am trying to think which A-league team would qualify for the UCL......hmmmm, can't think of one, would Melbourne City do the job? However, that's not the point. Oliver Bozanic is another that is now playing in the SPL. In reflection it is a good long term career move for many your Aussie players, in the case of Rogic he will have a healthy pay check, longevity and limited time in the bench......he like others is very wise in that I believe he recognises his limitations when it comes to the top flight in the game and will set himself up financially for the rest of his life, he is looking after himself. Arzani may well move on, All the best to him.

Celtic will be a great move. Much like Rogic he needs to toughen up, no better place to do that than away to Aberdeen in January.

RE: "play against teams weaker then A league". In your opinion, on how do you rate the teams in both leagues (A-League & SPFL), if they were to be in the one league (22 team league)?

Oh dear, the sky will fall in now as he has possibly signed for Celtic as a result of a possible Man City deal. Why these young Australian players never take notice of the sages on these pages I will never know.

I'm not 100% sure this deal went through! Checking the 'ins & outs' at Man City I note that he came in on the 2nd to last day but no mention of him being loaned out to ANYONE. Could Man City keep him for 6 months to see how he shapes up in their reserves side before deciding where to send him, even back to Melbourne?

Celtic I don’t think is the right choice. Getting game time could be hard and if he does , getting to play against teams weaker then A league is not going to help him. A loan move to the championship or Belgium holland would enhance his talent.

Unlike playing in an Australian summer, it can get a bit nippy in a Scottish winter.
