Team of underperformers from Round 22

By Doran Smith / Roar Guru

This team consists of players who underperformed in Round 22 of the 2018 AFL season.

B: Ben Stratton (Hawks), Michael Johnson (Dockers), Alex Pearce (Dockers)
HB: Nathan Wilson (Dockers), Tom Jonas (Power), Callum Ah Chee (Suns)
C: Bradley Hill (Dockers), Scott Selwood (Cats), Isaac Smith (Hawks)
HF: Lachie Whitfield (Giants), Ryan Schoenmakers (Hawks), Nick Holman (Suns)
FF: Hayden Ballantyne (Dockers), Ben Brown (Kangaroos), Aaron Young (Suns)
Foll: Sean Darcy (Dockers), Bailey Banfield (Dockers), Christian Petracca (Demons)
Int: Adam Cerra (Dockers), Michael Walters (Dockers), Cam Mccarthy (Dockers), Tom Rockliff (Power)

Backs
Ben Stratton didn’t have the best of games in a Hawks team that nearly lost to the lowly Saints. Michael Johnson, Alex Pearce and Nathan Wilson were a part of a Dockers back six that were deplorable; they should definitely be a chance to be dropped in round 23 if coach Ross Lyon is to make a statement.

Tom Jonas played well below the level he is capable of. Callum Ah Chee was underwhelming.

Midfielders
Bradley Hill was part of a Dockers midfield that was obliterated; he failed to provide his trademark run on the wing. Scott Selwood had a disappointing game statistically for the Cats, having just one kick. Isaac Smith had a poor game against the Saints, in a game I would have expected him to have more of an impact in.

Forwards
Lachie Whitfield had his second worst game from a disposal perspective with just seventeen disposals. Ryan Schoenmakers will battle to retain his spot in the Hawks’ 22 if match committee bases his selection in the team on his round 22 performance.

Nick Holman has been a regular part of the Suns team, but he won’t be if his display against the Lions is anything to go by. Hayden Ballantyne’s poor performance summed up the Dockers current lowly predicament as he was barely sighted.

Ben Brown didn’t play to his potential, if he did then the Kangaroos probably would have beaten the Crows. Aaron Young had a game to forget last Saturday night.

Followers
Sean Darcy showed that he may not belong at AFL level as he was well beaten by the inexperienced Ryan Abbott in a one-sided duel. Bailey Banfield had a disappointing performance. Christian Petracca didn’t have much of an impact on the game for the Demons.

Interchange
Adam Cerra, Michael Walters and Cam Mccarthy were all underwhelming; all three of them would be extremely disappointed with playing well below the level that they are capable of. Tom Rockliff went missing for the Power; he is an important part of their team, but last Saturday against the Magpies he played well below the level that he is capable of playing at.

Haha. No superstar but is structurally important and Hawks haven't lost in 2018 when he's been in the side.

I assume Schoenmakers has a permanent spot in this team? Absolute spud.

I didn’t expect more from Connor Glass, but I felt Stratton didn’t play to his capability.

Hey AD. I thought the other Conor (Nash) was pretty good - if he had kicked his 2 set shots on goals he would have had an excellent game. Hawks have stuck with Nash against the Swans for his 3rd straight game while Glass is rightly straight back to Box Hill.

Oh man that wasn’t good. Neither of the Hawk’s Irishmen were particularly good last Saturday, hey?

Stratton? You obviously missed Conor Glass's game.
