My best 22 utility players of the 2018 season

I have picked my best 22 utility players for the 2018 season.

Players must have played in more than one position in their career or played more than one role for the team. To be a part of this team players must have played at least 50 games for their career and a minimum of ten games in the 2018 season.

Backs
Luke Hodge has shown that he has the ability to play both midfield and defence in his career. Hodge has been a general in the defence for the Lions and has been like an on-field coach.

Michael Hurley has shown that he has the ability to play forward and back. Hurley should have been in the All-Australian squad of 40 as he is one of the premier tall defenders in the competition.

Lachie Whitfield has the capability to play on the wing or on a half-back flank. Whitfield was named on the half-back flank in the All-Australian team.

Jeremy McGovern showed that he has the ability to hit the scoreboard in the Eagles’ interstate win over the Power. McGovern was named at centre halfback in the All-Australian team.

Bachar Houli started his career playing on a wing, but he plies his trade off a half-back flank for the Tigers. Houli managed to accumulate plenty of possessions and displayed on-field leadership this season.

Midfielders
Elliot Yeo is capable of playing a number of roles. Yeo was part of the All-Australian squad of 40. Nat Fyfe can go forward and hit the scoreboard and also play through the midfield as one of the best players in the competition.

Shane Edwards plays in the midfield and on the half forward line and his use of the ball this season was particularly impressive.

Forwards
Josh Caddy started his career in the midfield but was selected in the All-Australian squad of 40 due to the fact that managed to hit the scoreboard on a regular basis in season 2018. Justin Westhoff has shown that he has the ability to play as a utility for the Power and was one of the Power’s better players this season.

Shaun Higgins can play through the midfield and also in the forward line. Higgins showed how valuable a player he is as he was named in the All-Australian team on the bench.

Robbie Gray is universally respected as one of the most talented players in the competition. Gray has the ability to hit the scoreboard and play in the midfield.

Tom McDonald has played part of his career as a key defender but has played as a key forward this season. Gary Ablett can play through the midfield and drift forward and kick a goal.

Scott Lycett has taken the number one ruck mantle at the Eagles and has the ability to have an impact up forward. Patrick Dangerfield and Dustin Martin are such valuable players as they can play in the middle of the ground and also play up forward.

Interchange
Jordan Lewis started his career with the Hawks in the midfield but has played a role in defence this season for the Demons. Lewis is an on-field leader for the team.

Adam Tomlinson has played as a key forward and defender. Tomlinson plays an important role for the Giants. Luke Parker plays partly as a forward, but predominantly through the midfield.

Angus Brayshaw can play through the midfield as well as on half back and up forward.
