Sonny Bill Williams to fight Bachelorette winner - no, seriously!

By The Roar / Editor

Sonny Bill Williams will fight Stu Landy, winner of 2017’s Bachelorette reality TV show featuring Sophie Monk, on December 1 in Sydney.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring again,” says Williams. “I know this will be a hard fight for me after being out of the ring for three years.

“Some people will say I’ll be rusty, but I can’t wait. I know I’ll put on a good show and the cause is a great one.

“It feels good to be giving something back.”

The match will be a charity fight, raising funds to help raise money for the Auckland City Mission, and the winner will be declared ‘world heavyweight champion of the homeless and needy’.

The event will also see former Australian world champion Jeff Fenech come out of retirement to fight amateur Mark Borius.

Laundy will undoubtedly be giving up some height and size to the 191 cm, 108 kg Williams, but says he isn’t intimidated.

“Sonny’s got me in bulk and muscle… and probably athleticism as well,” said Laundy.

“But I’ve done quite a lot of sparring throughout my life. I’ve had experience throwing punches.”

The millionaire pub owner was a contestant on the 2017 season of The Bachelorette after having also previously appeared on SBS show Filthy Rich and Homeless.

“Living on the streets with no money or clothes and living rough with just a sleeping bag for 10 days gave me a taste of what life as a homeless person is, invisible, forgotten, ignored,” said Laundy.

“I want to help and I’m grateful for Sonny for giving his time, name and body to support this cause. I’ll try not to hurt him!”

Although he won the season, Laundy’s relationship with Bachelorette Sophie Monk ended shortly after the show concluded.

+2 I thought this was a legitimate fight and half a reason why Sonny Bill dodged Paul Gallen. But then again SBW only fights people he knows he can beat

KFTD its not about serious boxing...Its purely using stars to raise money for a charity in Auckland who help with homelessness...Most of the non stars are paying to box and the guy fighting SBW has made a very generous donation to the cause for the privilage...most of the stars are donating all their time and much more...this is a good thing but is perhaps being presented to try to rile a few up.....dodgy jouno stuff looking for reraction

Botha was going to knock SBW out in the 11th. Botha was pulling faces, winking and sticking his tongue out to his corner. He had weathered the opening "onslaught"from SBW and knew he had him. Botha has fought Klitscho, Tyson and Lennox Lewis. SBW didn't come out for the next round he was spent and gone. The whole thing was called two rounds short , perplexing referees and everyone. Who is Landy? Goodluck to him. Who has Khoder Nasser still got in his stable. How much money has gone to him through these charades. Demeaning for rugby fans and boxing fans.

Yes bulk, muscle, and probably athleticism...and boxing. This cause is certainly worthy and proves yet again that not only is Stu Laundy’s a very good bloke, but he is an even better attention seeker. PS And WWF is real also.

Bit scared of Gallen is he? Don’t blame him to be honest, he’s a tough bugger.

Mr Laundy may die of dehydration before the first round starts...due to uncontrollable diarrhoea. A few rounds of charades or maybe some kind of eisteddfod may be kinder.

When did the Roar start doing Daily Telegraph headlines? He's not fighting a sanctioned bout for a Ranking or Title, it's a charity fight to raise money for homeless, surely that's a much better story than mocking who he's fighting.
