Waratahs complete home fixtures with three games at SCG

By Scott Pryde / Expert

The Waratahs have locked in the remainder of their home games for the upcoming Super Rugby season, announcing the Sydney Cricket Ground will host three games.

The New South Wales outfit, having announced games at Brookvale Oval, McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle and the new Western Sydney Stadium in the last week, will increase their offering at the SCG from one to three games in 2019.

They played a single game there last year, taking on the Reds.

The New South Wales against Queensland rivalry match will once again take to the field at the Cricket Ground in Round 4, while the Crusaders (Round 6) and Rebels (Round 10) will also get a run on the famous turf.

The change in venues comes with their Moore Park home at Allianz Stadium being put out of action through a mass renovation which is set to bring the ground into the modern era.

One of the biggest grounds in Sydney, Allianz Stadium being thrown out of action from the end of the 2018 NRL season has seen tenants across other sports also displaced, with the Sydney Roosters and Sydney FC needing to find new homes for the next three to four years.

Sydney FC in the A-League have taken games to Kogarah, Leichhardt and the Cricket Ground, while the Roosters fixtures will be announced tomorrow, but they are also expected to heavily rely on the Cricket Ground, which will see more traffic than it has in years with rugby union, rugby league, A-League and the AFL sharing the venue alongside cricket in the summer months.

The demolition and re-build of the football stadium at Moore Park is expected to be completed in 2022.

I would have liked to see WIN at Wollongong get a game. After all, Newcastle is getting one. We don't seem to pick up a trick down here. No SR, no A league and a few scraps from the NRL.

Interesting that the Tahs are announcing all their fixtures, not just at once but day by day....maybe just an attempt to make and then stay in the headlines. In fairness, the sharing out of games seems pretty fair. SCG trust still get a few, action in Western Sydney, going regional as well. Not too bad.
