Cox, Grimes offered one-game bans in AFL

By Steve Larkin / Wire

Richmond defender Dylan Grimes and Collingwood forward Mason Cox are facing one-game suspensions after being cited by the AFL match review officer.

Grimes has been charged with striking Collingwood’s Jamie Elliott in Thursday night’s MCG fixture.

And Cox has been charged with rough conduct against Grimes.

The pair have been offered one-match bans if they plead guilty.

Richmond’s Shane Edwards has also been charged, for striking Magpie Adam Treloar, but can accept a $2000 fine with an early guilty plea.

Treloar has also been charged with making careless contact with an umpire and been offered a $1000 fine.

Cat, he is lucky Elliott bounced straight up too uninjured.

I agree Cat the vision is limited but I can only see Cox’s elbow rising after the contact. To me it looks like Cox just pushes Grimes with his forearm which is not raised and his elbow comes up as natural movement and doesn’t contact Grimes. The charge is rough conduct with no mention of head contact or striking.

Hard to see from the limited vision we have here but it looks like Cox raised his elbow and may or may not have gotten Grimes in the throat area (which is still considered part of the head). That's just a guess though. Need better vision.

They would be silly if they didn’t Pete. I just can’t see how that incident is classified as ‘rough conduct’ by Christian. I reckon you would see rougher conduct in the Little league.

Kane, I can’t see any contact to the head. To me it looks more like a block than a bump. I can only see Cox using his arms to push Grimes off, Jones was more a swinging arm.

Hope they do Col. Not just because it's the Pies.

Should be 3 weeks minimum as he attacked an opponents head with an elbow/forearm and this is extremely dangerous!! He could have avoided that contact but chose to proceed and just because no serious injury does not mean he should get a soft penalty. BTW add a week for his dive for the Cox bump, pathetic!

The difference Col is that Cox made head contact after choosing to bump, Jones didn't. It's written in the rules so Christian's hands were tied on this one.

Grimes should get a week for staging after such a soft bump.

Grimes should be able to get that down to careless or reckless citing impairment from the Cox incident, surely?

Grimes is damn lucky to only get 1 week. He should take it as fast as possible.

Collingwood must appeal the Cox bump. What a ridiculous decision by the MRO to suspend a player for as soft a bump as you will ever see. Last weeks bump by Liam Jones on Riewoldt was 10 times worse and he just got fined $2k. 2 weeks into the season and already we see inconsistencies.
