Folau hearing to continue on Sunday

By The Roar / Editor

Israel Folau’s code of conduct hearing will extend into a second day after a Rugby Australia statement on Saturday afternoon confirmed it will be continued tomorrow.

Today’s action saw Folau as well as Raelene Castle and Michael Cheika attend the hearing and provide evidence to the panel – no new witnesses are expected to be called tomorrow.

The panel is being chaired by John West QC, who is joined by Kate Eastman SC from Rugby Australia and Rugby Union Players’ Association representative John Boultbee AM.

The hearing is a closed session and so there are no further details available on what occurred at the sesssion. Rugby Australia have reiterated that the panel is not expected to make or deliver a decision tomorrow.

Exactly when a decision is likely to arrive remains unclear.

I would imagine that if Qantas fails to renew it's sponsorship RA would approach quite a number of corporate entities.

He said he would walk away. No mention of compensation. Though this was before his $4 million contract.

Maybe her job interview with RA was like a Hooper post match interview....."I'll learn a lot from those mistakes but it's important not to be too focused on the outcome"!

One verifiable fact concerning the AR CEO is that her tenure at the Bulldogs, which apparently qualified her for the job at RA, was a failure......

Must be desperate to watch SuperRugby in the first place on any TV programme. I woke up and watched Ruggar on Channel one ,until I dozed off again. I tried to count all the 400 spectators, as the ground at Canberra looked empty, but Raiders were too busy winning in Wagga Wagga earlier in the day & we all know the “ Green Machine “carries the clout in that town. Luckily for me, I woke from the nightmare to watch a proper good attacking game of NRL at Bank West Stadium. Great team try. Great long distant tries. It reminded me of Global Rugby, but with excitement included??

No, I think he wants his full four mil. He was the one who said he would walk if his comments hurt RA. Now with $4 mil on the table...

He could be doing it for more money - that is true. He could also be refusing the $1 million offer on the table (which is still a large sum of money) because he wants an apology from RA.

Hi Bamboo, According to RA's 2018 Financial Statements, Sponsorships Received in Advance, Current Liabilities, for the 2019 year =AUD 4.364 Million, Received in advance for 2020 or beyond = AUD 5 Million. Total AUD 9.364 Million. But RA in their notes do not tell us how much of the AUD 9.364 Million is from Qantas.

Somehow, I don’t imagine Qantas are in a rush to lose Joyce eirher, given Qantas’ performance under his leadership.

"Clearly not doing this for money" - hmm, my maths suggests that the remainder of his contract is well in excess of $1million and he's fighting to keep his contract...

Well... I know there is 1 relatively recently minted RA board member, who is deeped in club rugby administration, who would I believe be and honourable new chair, and intimately familiar with such issues, as young players being picked off my Rugby League...sack the rest? And offer Link whatever is needed, for him to 'take time out' to care-take Wallabies for 2019.

Clive Palmer might take that on if Folau is reinstated. If RA has any more common sense left and realize that Folau is not an opponent they can push over, they would make a genuine peace offering with Folau, apologize to Folau for the way they have treated him and bring him back to the Wallabies and Waratahs and Folau. I have no doubt Qantas and RA are taking a beating on the public perception poll at the moment. It is unlikely, but as the stakes become higher, RA might concede and make a u-turn.

Lots of ethical and "commercial" comment here - generally "keep Qantas happy" and harvest the money. Not seen much discussion of where Foxtel has skin in the game what are TV rights vs Qantas? If Izzy is dumped, I for one will forthwith cancel Foxtel - they are not led by the head or heart but by a kick to the goolies.

money is not the main goal Aussie, 100%. The PM's announcement, seeking votes against internet trolls, is very poorly timed IMO. As of today, I am looking for a person other than Noel Person, to be our 1st President. Cometh the hour, cometh another two decades: President Israel Foloau.

Yup, as I predicted yesterday RA likely offered Folau some sort of settlement and I am personally happy to see he rejected it. This does not bode well for RA - Folau is clearly not doing this for money. Usually when one is offered this kind of money, the legal counsel would have encouraged him to take the money on the table and move on with life, perhaps getting a gig overseas etc. But several reasons why I think Folau rejected it including his team feels they have a strong case and want maximum payout, or money is not the main goal and the objective of Folau is to get a win for his rights. RA is now in very dangerous waters - not only is Folau well supported increasingly by powerful people in the media such as Alan Jones, but the Christians are all waking up in Australia and all around the world. More and more people, even atheist, fornicators and drunkards are seeing this as bullying and suppression of freedom of speech by corporates and queer activism/far left. So like the majority of those in the online polls so far who do not want IF sacked, I am happy he declined the million dollar offer. There is too much at stake, not just for Christians, but for anyone who is an employee in Australia. This is a landmark test case.
