"It's about you and your greed": Drew Mitchell slams Folau's fundraiser

By The Roar / Editor

Former Wallaby Drew Mitchell has slammed past teammate Israel Folau’s decision to turn to crowdfunding as he launches legal action against Rugby Australia.

Folau yesterday launched a crowdfunding campaign via website ‘Go Fund Me’, asking his supporters to donate $3 million towards his legal fees.

Mitchell tweeted:

“YOU are in a fight that YOU chose to be in after YOU broke the terms of YOUR contract, the kids below are in a fight they NEVER wanted to be in & yet YOU think YOU deserve donations more than they do??!!

“It’s no longer about religion, it’s about YOU and YOUR greed.”

On Go Fund Me, Folau wrote:

“I believe the termination of my contract is unlawful, which is why I have started legal proceedings against Rugby Australia and Rugby NSW.

“In response, Rugby Australia have already said that they will “divert significant resources” to fight me in court. Even if I win, Rugby Australia can appeal. There is every chance that a prominent test case like this could take years and eventually end up in the High Court of Australia.

“My wife Maria and I have already spent over $100,000 of our own money, and that was just to try and deal with Rugby Australia’s internal tribunal processes. The money I am asking for is solely to fund the rest of my action in court.

“I know I am putting myself on the line – this action will be very costly in terms of time, money and reputation – but I do not intend to stop now.

“I would be very grateful for your support. Could you make a donation, within your capacity to give, in order to support my legal action? I have the fight of my life on my hands and every little bit will help.”

Folau’s campaign has so far raised $300,000.

Unaware why you think Folau's supporters demur from Giffin's quoted judgment. I would have thought it, an assessment which actually, should favour Folau. KP

Please watch this TED Talks video to see how slippery this slope is (per our thread a few days ago). At 7:40 the speaker says that they “are born this way” and that it’s biological - where have we heard this before? For goodness sake, do some research into what’s going on in the world. https://youtu.be/egiBgmvv8wA

Thanks Jacko, I didn't think you were the one behind the article title. I have read through the article and have notice couple of things that I'm sure you'd be interested in. 1 - The comments in the article quoted from Robyn Ironside at the Australian are complete different to what she reported in her article in the Australian. In fact she seems to support Joyce's position and actually speaks more about the changes to the loyalty program. For example, the article paraphrases that Joyce said to RA that "he wanted it (Izzy) sorted out" and “we (Qantas) said that was not good and gave them (RA) time to fix it. Other sponsors withdrew their support,” whereas in Robyn Ironside's article she says no such thing nor make no such quote. This is pretty misleading as it is paraphrasing a conversation that there is no evidence it took place in such a way and citing a source that says the exact opposite. The only other source referenced is Alan Jones and I think even you would admit he is a bit bias on this topic. 2 - I'm not sure this article actually explicitly says what that Joyce made any call other than asking what the go was. By this articles own admission, it says that other sponsors where concerned as well, why are none of them explicitly mentioned like Qantas and Joyce are? Seems a bit like a hit piece to me, with very little credibility and very deceptive. 3 - Jacko, I know it is a free country and you are allowed to peruse websites such as the one you linked, however, I would really try to avoid websites that describe one of Australia's favourite and most successful brands as "Quaintarse" and one of the aviations industry's most successful leaders as a "bum bandit" and "Irish fairy". Side Note: I love how whoever developed the website snuck in a rainbow in the tab icon haha classic stitch up.

Spruce Goose dear boy, you're hardly one to comment on spelling. A cretan is someone who comes from Crete. I rather think you've confused this with cretin. Frankly I'm a little surprised you don't know how to spell cretin.

Your parents aren't a matter of choice, no. Your ability to accept their advice as reasonable or insane, is. I'll denigrate Eni Folau as long as he continues to denigrate anyone that doesn't fit inside his absurd belief structure. I'll denigrate ANY parent who says their child will go to hell. Go F88k yourself Boo.

In Luke 19:8-9 the RICH MAN got saved (guaranteed place in heaven) without giving away everything. That contradicts your position. How did the rich tax collector get saved without giving away everything? Try explaining that in light of your position? I posted a more detailed response but it’s beinf moderated. Hopefully it posts soon.

In Luke 19:8-9 the RICH MAN got saved (guaranteed place in heaven) without giving away everything. That contradicts your position. How did the rich tax collector get saved without giving away everything? Try explaining that in light of your position? Acts 13:22 (New Testament) And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. David was a wealthy King and the bible says that David was a man after God’s heart. David was a murderer and an adulterer amongst other things. How did David get to heaven without giving away everything? Same with Job, Abraham and Solomon? Which verses are true because on the surface they seem to contradict? I believe that they are all true - you don’t believe they because now you have a contradiction which you haven’t explained? I am saved and can discern the meaning. You can’t understand because you’re not saved. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. You’re not saved (natural man) so you can’t understand the bible in full. A natural man can believe the gospel and get saved but he cannot discern the more complicated passages if he isn’t saved - as you’ve just proven! You’ve done exactly what most people accuse Christians of doing ie taking one or more verses out of context to fit their worldview and not comparing it to the rest of the bible! I’m not one of those people! Could these verses (and others) help to further explain it? John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Let’s look at the rest of Matthew 19 for context. Matthew 19 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. The rich man loved his possessions. He wasn’t prepared to put Jesus first. He wanted to keep his carnal life and it cost him his spiritual life. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. Note the word “hardly” - it doesn’t mean that he cannot. It means that most rich men won’t because they won’t believe. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. With men it is impossible but with God everything is possible (to be rich and saved) ie a camel passing through the eye of a needle. 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have “followed me”, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Do we need to forsake our family to get to heaven also? Even our own children? Wow, it’s getting much more difficult to get to heaven now isn’t it (when you think carnally instead of spiritually). The rich man in Matthew 19 wasn’t saved. He loved his life so much that he was boasting about how good (righteous) he was. He didn’t realise that not one of us is righteous. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Try explaining how the rich man in Luke 19 got saved without giving away everything whilst maintaining your position please?

Serving the Lord and becoming rich whilst doing so has something of a long tradition. I wonder if any employer groups would chip in to help RA. It would be an interesting precedent if religious rights override your employment obligations.

Ruckin Oaf, Well the ACL, otherwise Australian Christian Lobby, are apparently tipping in big. This is what I expected, once Folau's comments became mainstream, it was inevitable they would be politicised. It now seems so, so, so, so long ago that Folau was terminated for breaking the conditions of his contract. Anyway, I missed my calling as a preacher. There's so many gullible people out there who just want to give their money away to anyone who will promise them redemption.
