The three men who could replace Jason Davidson at the Glory

By Chen Yang / Roar Pro

With Jason Davidson swanning off to Korea and Perth laughing all the way to the bank, the purple troops now have a fullback-shaped hole in their back line.

The candidate in question needs to have bagfuls of stamina, as they would not have the luxury of a winger tracking back. He would, essentially, be solely responsible for the team’s play on the left flank, both in attack and defence.

Let’s take a look at three players who fit that bill.

Alex Gersbach
Once a Sydney FC golden boy, the skilful fullback’s career has hit a snag in recent years.

Relegated with Belgian club NAC Breda in the season just past, he is on the look-out for a new club, and Tony Popovic’s men could just fit the bill.

As Chris Ikonomidis proved, an A-League return can be an ample shop window for European clubs. Furthermore, Gersbach is likely to be available on a free transfer, making him an ideal replacement.

2. Scott Jamieson
The fiery fullback might be short in stature, but he more than makes up for it with his passion and excellent technique.

With Scott Galloway likely to be the No.1 left back at Melbourne City in the 2019/20 season, could Jamieson join Popovic’s men for more game time?

3. Leigh Broxham
The Victory utility man is often unfairly perceived as a jack of all trades, with the snide, insulting implication that he is a master of none.

That could not be further from the truth.

However, although the Victory player-of-the-year provides excellent defensive steel and nous wherever he plays, his lack of offensive threat going forward counts against him.

So here are the three possible replacements for the Korean-bound Davidson.

What do you think of them? Are they a good fit? Are there current or former A-Leagues players who could do a better job?

if gersbach returns, id expect him to stay for 1 season and get sold on, just like davidson. we could geta release clause in his contract too.

aw com eon. hes stated himself that hes not happy at nac. Also, as i pointed out in the article, ikinomidis and now singh is proof that moving to australia isnt the career graveyard many make it out to be. plus, glory are reigning champs that are playing acl football next season, which is a relatively high level. Popovic also has a reputation of imprving the players he works with. Why the hate mate haha :P

You're kidding. Gersbach is far too good for the A-League. Have you seen him perform under Ange? Not to mention he managed more game time in the Eredivisie in half a season with NAC Braeda than Sainsbury and Behich managed in a full season. Maybe we should bring two defenders at their peak that wore the Socceroos armband back to the A-League? (Sarcasm)

NEC Breda are Dutch. Gersbach is good though. Jamieson is very average and way below Davidson Broxham? One of they biggest issues for MV is that Broxham, a very useful utility, is shunted into left back. He's a right footed midfielder who lacks the athleticism and attacking instincts.

I'd have thought Water Scott would have stepped in, but looks like he is off to Nix. Gersbach looks to be ideal.
