When does State of Origin 2019 Game 3 start? NSW Blues vs QLD Maroons start time, broadcast info, finish time

By The Roar / Editor

UPDATE: State of Origin Game 3 kicked off at 8:14pm.

State of Origin has reached a decider for 2019, with the NSW Blues and Queensland Maroons both needing a win in Game 3 to claim the series. Here’s everything you need to know about the big match, including the start time, squads, finish time and broadcast info.

The Origin 3 start time for 2019 is set for 8:10pm (AEST) on Wednesday, July 10, and will be played at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium in Homebush. This is likely to be the final Origin match at ANZ Stadium for a number of years as the venue gets ready to undergo a transformation into a rectangular venue.

The chances of the match actually starting on time aren’t too high, with Origins often kicking off far later than scheduled. The first two matches of this series both kicked off around five minutes later than advertised, but there’s a good chance that could be pushed back given the heightened interest for the decider.

If the game does get underway on time, expect Origin 3 to finish just before 10pm. That will naturally be later if kick off is delayed, or if the match goes into extra-time at the end of the second half.

There haven’t been too many changes to either squad following the Blues’ big win a couple of weeks ago in Perth.

Queensland have made four changes to their side, two of them forced ones. Kalyn Ponga (calf) and Matt Gillett (groin) were both ruled out with injury, with Corey Norman and Ethan Lowe their respective replacements. Jarrod Wallace and Dylan Napa were both dropped after Game 2, replaced by Christian Welch and the returning Joe Ofahenguae.

Rather than going with straight swaps, the injuries have forced Kevin Walters to reshuffle his line-up. Cameron Munster moves from five-eighth to fullback to cover Ponga, with Norman slotting into the halves alongside skipper Daly Cherry-Evans.

With Gillett out, David Fifita is expected to change from a bench role to a starting spot in the second row. 18th man Lowe will move onto the Maroons bench.

For the Blues, there are just the two changes, both of them forced. Nathan Cleary was unable to overcome an ankle injury suffered in Game 2 and has been replaced for Origin 3 by Mitchell Pearce in a straight swap at halfback.

Tariq Sims is the other omission. After initially being picked, the bench forward was unable to get a grade 2 dangerous contact charge overturned at the judiciary and was, as a result, suspended for the Origin decider. David Klemmer, who missed the Perth victory with a broken wrist after playing the series opener, replaces Sims on the pine.
