Gelant swaps Bulls for Stormers

By News / Wire

South Africa fullback Warrick Gelant has made the switch from the Pretoria-based Bulls to Super Rugby rivals the Cape Town Stormers.

Gelant, 25, will swap Pretoria for Cape Town and has been brought in to fill the gap left by another Springbok, Dillyn Leyds, who has moved to La Rochelle in France.

“Warrick has established himself as one of the most dynamic back line players in South Africa, so we could not be more thrilled to have him on our books going forward,” Stormers coach John Dobson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Gelant, who can also play on the wing, was part of the Boks squad that lifted the World Cup in Japan last November, though he did not feature in the match-day squad in the final win over England.

That's good news, the Bulls certainly need something to change! Even better news for the Stormers - PSTD is staying! They've certainly done better than most at retaining their top Boks.

Winds of change sweeping The Bulls.. Gelant a big loss but some great signings too. Just recruited Steenkamp.. Last year's U20 player of the season. 125kg, 2,04m lock forward.. Already being touted as the next lock forward superstar to come out of SA..

Is this effective as soon as (or if) South Africa's Super Rugby teams return to play in their own domestic competition or is this a change for the 2021 season? La Rochelle, where Leyds will play, start their new season I believe in September so presumably Leyds can remain with the Stormers until about a month before that.
