The Dragons' hail Mary pass won't net them a win against the Dogs

By Anton Taylor / Roar Guru

You know your team is in shatters when the experienced James Graham said even he is surprised he got picked because of his performance against the Warriors on the weekend.

Origin forward Tyson Frizell is joining the Knights in 2021 because, he said, he wants to join a team to win a premiership.

St George Illawarra are taking on a Bulldogs side who got a belting from Manly 32-6 and coach Paul McGregor has made two changes that will shock both Dragons and non-Dragons fans.

Corey Norman has been moved to fullback, Ben Hunt has been named at five-eighth, with Adam Clune to make his NRL debut at halfback at the age of 24, while Matt Dufty has been named 19th man.

There are reports ‘Mary’ has two more games to produce a win and the Doggies’ defence will definitely put up a fight.

Kieran Foran has been named at five-eighth and is a big in – he may be the difference for Bulldogs’ attack, particularly if he can get his combination with Lachlan Lewis firing. Lewis has a good kicking game and Foran has strong organisational and passing games, which is the balance Canterbury need.

Sports opinion delivered daily

Both coaches are under pressure and will be looking to reduce the pressure that is building up after every loss.

Ultimately, the Dragons are in shatters and that’s why the Bulldogs will win by eight – even though both teams are desperate for their first win of 2020.

Hail Mary full of grace watch two teams go full pace - to the bottom of the ladder - sad for us Doggies to watch.

What we do not know with the Dragons is how the team selection process works, for it has been revealed that when it comes to recruitment, the coach does not have the final say at the dragons, it appears Millward has carte- blanche when it comes to recruitment and McGregor has to deal with what he is given. Now we all assume that McGregor has the ultimate say in the team selections process but is this also done by some committee process where the coach does not have the final say? Now we also have Flanagan there as well, so tell me why they still insist in playing players out of position, none of it makes sense to be honest. To leave one of the best dummy half metre eaters in the comp in Issac Luke out of the team last week has me flummoxed beyond belief. Yes I know he has a mistake or 2 in him but he gives them inspirational go forward. Having a decent forward like DeBellin would also help their cause as well. As for the Dogs, it now appears that Pay went against the advise of his senior players when he picked last weeks team and it appears the players were right because the dogs were as pitiful as the Dragons.

As bad as the Dragons were in attack they only conceded 18 points. Bulldogs will need a big improvement in defence this week. Will be an intriguing game with Mary's position pretty much untenable

2 weeks might be a stretch if he gets beaten by the Warriors and Dogs in respective weeks. If he loses this one, he should go. The new coach may have to take some medicine against the Sharks the following week but build to something when they face the Titans after that. From there its Roosters, Raiders and Manly... If they are going to make changes, this time next week is it.

One glaring weakness, recruitment. Graham was a decent prop but on a downward slide, Norman has never fulfilled the 'potential' he gets credited with, Hunt had taken6 years to get a gig in an underperforming brinco squad, both Sims brothers are well overrated for the money they get & Lafai can't set up his wingers. All recruits.

Funnily enough, for all the wrong reasons, this will be one of the more interesting games of the round.
