NSWRL hit Koroisau with fine for Origin camp breach

By Pamela Whaley / Wire

Apisai Koroisau’s State of Origin future is in doubt after the NSWRL slapped him with a $15,000 fine for breaching the code of conduct during Blues camp this series.

It comes on top of the $35,000 fine and two-match suspension handed down by the NRL for breaching COVID-19 protocols ahead of Origin 2 last month.

Koroisau is alleged to have brought a woman into the team’s hotel in Brisbane shortly after biosecurity protocols were increased due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney.

It has now cost the Penrith hooker $50,000, two NRL games and potentially another Blues jersey.

After making his NSW debut in game three of the series, any future selection will hinge on Koroisau proving to the NSWRL he can be trusted.

“When a player is selected to represent the NSW Blues, the player is placed into a privileged position whereby he or she is trusted by the board to uphold all of the standards, protocols and values of NSWRL,” said NSWRL chief executive David Trodden in a statement on Wednesday.

“The board is extremely disappointed that in this case, the trust which was placed in Koroisau has been breached.

“If the board is to consider further recommendations for his selection in NSW teams, it will need to be convinced he has earned the right to be once again trusted to uphold all of the standards, protocols and values of NSWRL.”

Koroisau has 14 days to respond to the breach notice, but if agreed upon, the fine will be donated to PCYC.

That’s an expensive, um, dalliance. I have no idea of the going rate for intimacy but I think he could have got a better deal elsewhere.

That’s a bit rich coming from a Queenslander. As you said he’s been ‘down there’, you’d have to be a Queenslander. It’s Queensland who looks to cherry pick young NSW players, to later claim they are Queenslanders . Just look through the players who have played for Queensland in what’s supposed to be SOO. That Maroon has had a definite ‘Blue’ look about it , over many a Queensland line up.

He shouldn’t have done it for many reasons. Really dumb! Still, not being chosen for SOO. I’m sure he couldn’t care less about that. Club sides would also really love their clubs players to not be chosen for SOO.

Mahoney is a Queenslander :crying: Brailey could be a shot too depending on his development.

McInnes, provided he get's a run at 9 with Cronulla. Reece Robson would also be a chance. Isn't Reed Mahoney from NSW?

Has there been a pic released of this lady he brought in? She must be amazing, not only to risk his NSW jumper and cost $50k but there are far more pressing matters at home. Can't be a whole lot going on upstairs with Api so risk much for a shag. I'll be interested how staunch NSWRL will be if Cook goes own before SOO next year. Who's next up, Brailey? Maybe McInnes?

The NSWRL cannot suspend him from NRL games though. The NRL already hit him with the same punishment as they did Arrow. Now the NSWRL have effectively stripped him of his match payment for SOO3. There is not much else they could have done other than rub him out of future years, which I think they pretty much have.
