Cameron Munster wins man of the match in State of Origin opener

Cameron Munster has won the man of the match award for Queensland after their 16-10 win in State of Origin 1 in Sydney.

Munster was immense during the game and pulled off a number of heroic acts to keep the Blues at bay.

He was also a key threat in attack and always looked like breaking through the Blues line which he did a number of times.

“That will go down as one of the hardest games I’ve ever played,” Munster said.

“That’s the great thing about Origin, how fast the game is.”

The Melbourne Storm star who spoke candidly last year about his struggles with alcohol and almost losing his Storm contract showed just how valuable he is to Queensland.

Munster had 191 run metres and picked up a whopping 82 fantasy points during the game.

And off his wrong foot no less. And in the replay you can see, while running down the sideline at pace, he shapes to kick them holds it another second to get Gagai’s position right and then kicks at the last possible moment. It was a brilliant play.

Yeah agreed. Carrigan and Collins were a 1-2 punch Cobbo is amazing. The pick up, accelerate and kick inside in a split second for Gagai’s try was poetry

And just a couple more. Lindsay Collins was super coming off pretty average club form. And Selwyn Cobbo is going to be some player

Munster’s was one of the all time origin performances DCE and Holmes were everywhere tidying up Carrigan swung the momentum of the whole game at 16 minutes Cotter did everything on debut for 80 super tough minutes in the middle Grant was sublime in limited minutes Teddy never stopped trying for NSW

Munster deserved it, Holmes and Cotter would have been worthy candidates too. Cotter's performance even more amazing since he is a debutante and was forced to play 80 due to team injuries. Amazing performances. Ponga, Carrigan, DCE worthy mentions.

There was only ever going to be Munster for MOM. Absolutely massive performance, key performances in attack and defence. A lot of his work goes unrecognised but gee he was big in that. Well done Cam, you deserve it.
