Wallabies DIY player ratings from the 2nd Springboks Test: Fails, fails everywhere as Koroibete crashes back to earth

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies’ 24-8 loss to the Springboks on Saturday was nothing short of ugly – and the performance was reflected in The Roar‘s official player ratings for the match.

Just 10 of the 22 who took the field (we’ve left Taniela Tupou out of this equation) mustered an average score of five or more – an improvement on just six in the second Test against Argentina, but still a dire number.

Of those, Rob Valetini’s 6.35 was the clear standout, the number eight named best Wallaby afield by Roarers for the second time in three Tests, having also been the best of a bad bunch against the Pumas.

The precipitous drop was summed up by Marika Koroibete, who fell from a record high at the Adelaide Oval to just a 5.09 in Sydney, barely mustering a passing grade.

Another ‘hero’ from the first Test, Nic White, finished with the lowest ranking of anyone (excluding Tupou), with a wretched 4.14 average.

Yikes.

Rennie won’t start samu he’s utility player and Rennie seem to like playing it safe with the bench

Cause the wallabies play differently. And that’s Rennie’s mistake. He’s (or is it DMK? Honestly since his appointment Wallabies are going backwards) picking players because they are from winning team, that plays different style and not the players he needs

Hodge and white were called coach’s pets by their teammates.. I was disappointed Rennie didn’t drop him as a disciplinary measure but funny how not choosing integrity and dropping white for his diving massively backfired. The way the game went he prolly regrets not dropping him cause it fired up Sa no doubt :stoked:

Wasn't missed after the first test against the Saffas Heywood - now he is. As they say, a week is a long time in Rugby.

Wallabies don't have a world class 10, with or without Cooper Yabbie.

Yeah that was a good win almost two years ago for the SRAU title. Brums 28 vs Reds 23. NL outplayed JOC convincingly for that title. More relevant is current form. Reds 1-6 in the last seven matches, ouch. Like I said we really needed TT but he’s gone missing. We need the Reds and all SR teams in fact.

I think McReight has played pretty well so far, but I would like to see Samu given some more time and a shot at starting, and Leota makes more sense on the bench given he can replace 6, 8 or lock.

Very confusing. Well if Wright was defending Mapimpi he was nowhere to be seen either. Surely if White is put on the wing, he defends there?

Jock Campbell was the best 15 in super rugby AU the last two years and he still is a long way off getting a sniff at a gold Jersey. Harry Wilson was the number 1 forward in super rugby but he needs to work on his foot work. Tate McDermott was the best 9 this year in super rugby AU but he does not play Dave Rennies kicking game so he needs to also sit and watch white kick away good ball each week.

You mean the brumbies have only beaten the reds once in the last 2 years.

I find the comments about Dave Rennie amusing. Last week the Wallabies beat the Springboks convincingly. Rennie shows faith in the team and selects the same team. This week the Wallabies didn’t turn up and beaten badly. So it’s Rennie fault for selecting the wrong team. Maybe it’s the Brumbies brain trust - McKellar and Fisher are at fault not getting the forwards to reform this week.

Big shelf! After last weekend if he goes, he should be joined by another 7 to 8 forwards, most of whom should be there before him.
