I’m right on the tropic of Capricorn & it has always meant ” top notch”. Thought it might’ve came from the fact that Mickey was the most famous (top) cartoon character. My wife reckons it’s rhyming slang, grouse- mouse which might be closer to the mark. That would’ve been completely lost to the non convict Kiwis.

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

For a number 8 he was pretty passive with his goal line defence, think he let two tries pass him. Then he drops an easy pass, not his best game for all the talk. But, where were the experienced guys showing the way, the likes of Bobby V, still looking….

Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check

Though, he did seem a bit shy to get forward & own any high balls.
Been there done that, look at the future.
Don’t think Schmidt will want any weasels in his squad anyway (re: Link, not the latter thing).

Beale, Rodda shine on Super Rugby return as Force smash Crusaders to keep finals hopes alive

What a performance by the Blues pack, unstoppable when they get a roll on. Papali’i, first pick in the AB’s side & skipper.
Red’s will see this as a welcomed challenge next week you’d think. They will not want to be rolled over that easily.
Where were the Brumby poster boys from a couple of weeks ago, all missing sadly? When the going got tough they ran for the hills, maybe Jimbo does have a point about not picking too many in the Wallabies?

Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check

Good to see a ref finally pinging the Brumbies for being offside in their rush defence.
Thought BOK was very lenient on Swain so many times doing the wrong thing at the breakdown, how many times does he have to ask him to pull out?

Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check

Force were in it up until the 72nd minute when they were attacking the Drua line when the ref completely misses a Fijian player off their feet & offside slapping at the Force halfbacks pass causing it to go forward. From that scrum the Drua run the field & scored. Game over.
Great showing by the Force girls.

'It feels unreal': Drua and Tahs advance to Grand Final as stars bag semi hat-tricks

Thanks Hugh.
Yes, how disappointing were the Reds, they’ve gone backwards? As you say ‘ No idea what happened ‘. They seem to have a lot of new faces in the forwards from last year & they lost that exciting winger, Helenia? I see she plays for the Fijian 7’s team now.
Brumbies have recruited well especially in the forwards, to have somebody like Mailangi sitting on the pine is a luxury.
Your backs will be too good for them though. Should be a good game.
It is good to see the comp getting closer.

Super Rugby W has been the most competitive to date but can anyone stop the in-form Tahs in the semifinals?

My take on it, Frankie.
The Reds want & did play high tempo rugby early on, other teams saw this & now are countering it with slowing play down & the refs are letting them get away with it.
For example, last weekends game, Moana were very slow in releasing the tackler, and also often had players interfering/getting in the way of the halfback. Add to this teams are very quick off the defensive line, putting extra pressure on the Reds short sharp passing game. Whether it is legal or not, it is hard to tell on tv, people at the game would see the broader picture better. The Brumbies were very quick up in defence the previous week.
Refs at the end of last season were all for quick breakdowns etc. Now they have gone back into their shells & not policing the breakdown so heavily now. You now see a lot of rucks where players aren’t supporting their weight, so McReight & Wright haven’t a chance with the ruck already sealed.
With the slowing down the Reds are getting a bit frustrated & flustered with the quick defence.
That’s what I think anyway.

The Wrap: Crusaders' shot clock fiasco and shhh, don’t put the moz on Darby

You’d think halfbacks with their passing skill would be good at it?

Huge coup sees Wallabies hooker coming home to Super Rugby on long-term deal, with World Cup in sights

Took Rennie awhile to work this out with persisting with FF though.

Huge coup sees Wallabies hooker coming home to Super Rugby on long-term deal, with World Cup in sights

Williams used to be a pretty good ref I thought, but maybe his eyesight is going with age?

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

Yeah, the ball carrier needs to take some responsibility in this day of ‘no head contact’. Why can an offensive player touch the head but the defence can’t? All fends should be below the shoulder as well.
Thought last week when Bobby V scored for the Brumbies, he deliberately lowered his shoulder into the head of the defender when crashing over?

'Brain explosion': Wallaby stars sent off as Queensland left red-faced in Moana Pasifika shocker

Can’t wait to see him back along side TT dismantling opposition front rows.

Huge coup sees Wallabies hooker coming home to Super Rugby on long-term deal, with World Cup in sights

The Reds found it hard to get into the game, first half very stop-start with the ref poorly managing the scrums, how many resets were there? Ref wasn’t going to give the Reds any freebies. Add to this all the unforced errors made by them & the cards, they were lucky to get a bonus point.

'Brain explosion': Wallaby stars sent off as Queensland left red-faced in Moana Pasifika shocker

Feel sorry for the guy he displaced, probably somebody that had come up through the 7’s pathways & was looking to cement his place in the squad?

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

Still looked very iffy, seen lesser dubious tries given more scrutiny.

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

Yeah Ken, I seem to remember not too long ago a certain Will Harris getting similar accolades, he’s still not in the top three #8’s. Let’s see where Cale is at in 18 months time.

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

Hopper in the French game yesterday looked lost in attack & was found out in positioning in defence that lead to France’s winning try.
Why do 15’s players just walk into Sevens set ups with so much ease? I think it just stuffs up the current squad. Look at what happened at the Commonwealth games, Kerevi & Marky M were underwhelming & they just upset the dynamics of the original touring Sevens team.
Sevens players can transition to 15’s with ease but not the other way around.

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

I think Bobby V was very lucky to be not called out for deliberately leading with his shoulder into the head of a tackler, he intentionally lowered his shoulder into head contact. Surely this duty of care to players’ heads should go both ways (i.e. ball carriers & tacklers taking responsibility) ? If he lead with an elbow, it would’ve been called out straight away. Why is a shoulder any different?

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

TMO’s on this side of the ditch had a shocker this week.
Did Goddard really place that ball properly for his try? This to me was the turning point of this game. There didn’t seem to be proper scrutiny of him actually getting it down, Berry wasn’t in a good position. From the little footage from front on, he looked like he lost control of it.
The night before, Dangunu’s one miss & one try should have been looked at more. Though the touchie was in good position for the try, so can probably let that one go through.
Isn’t this, along with foul play, why we brought TMO’s in, check whether they are really tries or not?

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

Over half of those metres for Bobby V was in one run when he scored. For Aus best player he needs to be sighted a bit more. Went missing big time for most of the match.
Saw more of Swinton.

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

Yeah, he wasn’t a certainty to start, most of us thought Quade would’ve been there but Gordon was the forerunner of the young ones at that time.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

The only stupid scrum penalty is when a referee gives it against a scrum that is retreating where the only thing they’re doing wrong is being unable to match the strength & technique of their opposites. Most others are pretty good in maintaining the structure & player safety of the scrum.
Plus the scrum is one of the main positives we differentiate from the Mungos. We don’t want to dumb it down to their level do we?

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

Pretty sure your right Sarah, poor reffing by Murphy not to ask his TMO. Isn’t that part of why TMO’s were brought in – check on iffy tries etc.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

Impressed by Sam Talakai in his post game interview, gee he spoke well. They might’ve found a good skipper there?
