Torrential rain sees A-League F3 Derby postponed

By News / Wire

The A-League Men derby between Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets has been postponed because of torrential rain.

A new match date has yet to be confirmed.

The rainfall gathered intensity in the hour before kick-off at Central Coast Stadium and the pitch was covered in huge areas of water by the scheduled 5pm AEDT start.

Players left the field during the warm-up with lightning in the Gosford area.

The match was initially delayed for 30 minutes but with little hope of a start it was was called off at 5.45pm AEDT.

Both clubs had finalised their starting sides with Mariners coach Nick Montgomery springing a surprise with new Socceroo striker Jason Cummings named on the bench, as was another World Cup aspirant in Garang Kuol.

The drainage must be rubbish still, there was only 31mm by 7 at Gosford so if it flooded by 5 it must be seriously stuffed and the council must have not fixed the drainage properly.

And now I might be able to watch it live as Sydney were playing on the same day. I’d love to watch Garang live before he goes.

Same thing happened circa Season 5. At least it's not a long trip.

The ray of sunshine was Matt Simon’s emotional speech. The Mariner’s will miss their retired star.
