Sharks star stood down after positive test as police charge half for DUI with suspended licence

By The Roar / Editor

Braydon Trindall has been stood down from the Cronulla Sharks after failing an alcohol and drug test while driving on a suspended licence.

The five eighth has been charged with drink driving while holding a suspended licence and has had a secondary drug test sent for further examination.

The Sharks confirmed via statement on Tuesday that he failed initial roadside alcohol and illicit drug tests early on Monday morning.

“The club has since followed the appropriate protocols within the player’s contract and CBA and continues to work with the NRL integrity unit, with the club, player and his management agreeing it is in Braydon’s best interest to not participate in games or to train for the short term, most importantly to attend to his welfare and health issues,” the statement read.

“Trindall reported the result of the roadside tests immediately to Sharks management, who in turn informed the NRL integrity unit.

“The matter has been referred for a court appearance in May where Trindall will face the allegations and charges levelled against him, noting that a secondary sample of the illicit drug test is yet to be confirmed.

“The Sharks treat these issues extremely seriously, however they are providing Trindall with the necessary welfare support.”

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Trindall was tested on Monday morning, just hours after his team’s victory over the North Queensland Cowboys at PointsBet Stadium. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He is currently prohibited from driving after having his licence suspended for other offences.

The Herald said it was alleged that the roadside drug test also showed cocaine was in his system, but that Trindall was awaiting the results from an oral fluid test for a more accurate result.

Apparently he kicked on after a 'celebration' at a 'team leader's' house, who is on a self-imposed drinking ban himself, but not with any other team-mates, no, they all went home to bed maybe. Gets done the next morning on his way to a recovery session. Well, he had a lot to recover from I guess.

My '68 Ford Cortina GT might have been tempted to discuss standards, however the 240K had no such complaints...

Sorry for calling you a baboon. Although you aren't helping yourself with your posts. There is nothing arrogant or condescending about what I am saying. You don't ever get leniency for driving without a licence. Perhaps, instead of reacting so defensively to learning something, you instead act like an adult and take the newly learnt knowledge in how it was intended. It is contested that he blew a negative result on his drug test. It is a fact that he blew over the limit for alcohol and doesn't have a valid licence. There is simply no rationale for those to be falsified. And I'm not sure why you refer to judge and jury. This would be a 10 minute bench hearing. It's not an episode of law and order.

Well it’s refreshing to know that the Roar can be guided by a legal eagle like yourself. Who can wade through all the technicalities of Drugs in Sport AND Drivers Licences, acting as Witness Judge and Jury before ascertaining all the facts. As to your note on my heritage- I’ve been Babooning around responding to arrogant condescending types who think they know all about life cause they can quote from a Book of Statutes

JdB was found not guilty on one charge, and hung jury on the rest. Police have dropped the charges. He is legally innocent.

I’ll tell you this as fact: there is no excuse for driving without a licence. Even if it expired the day before, you are stone cold breaking the law. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. You cannot go up to the judge and say “well, i wasn’t given a reminder”. It was his responsibility to ensure that at all times he retained a valid licence before driving a vehicle. You can check the 1000’s who you allegedly have been the victim of not being informed by the post. Every single one would still have been punished.

Just to be clear, are you saying that because he didn't see a reminder in the post, then he should be excused for not driving with a valid licence? Even though on his licence it has the expiry date clearly on it?

If workers in a high risk environment (which yours is) are unfit for work due to drug use, it's generally considered that they may be more than an occasional or social user. A more ethical and moral approach is to engage them with an Employee Assistance Program to see if they can be offered help and counselling, while supporting them with suitable duties and/or leave without pay. This is much better than just throwing them out and impacting their families as well. That only leads to other issues. Hopefully your employer will see the light

Article says licence suspended. I think a lapsed licence would be called something like 'non-licenced'. Could be wrong.

He'll be retained. He's in good form. Vaughan was a drag on the Dragons (get it?)

He'll get more 1. Leilua did low range. Trindall blew mid range 2. Leilua wasn't on the snort. 3. Leilua had a valid licence. I can see between 6-8 weeks, and agree with your fine.

I've always thought that driving bans for people convicted for unlicensed driving were a complete waste of time. They just keep driving.
