It’s Carlton’s first final since 2013 as they take to the MCG to battle Sydney in a bid to keep their premiership dream alive. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:50pm (AEST).
The Blues will have to overcome a significant head-to-head record deficit, as Sydney has won 12 of the past 14 meetings between the two teams.
Carlton’s defence is ranked fourth in the league, but their offense has been inconsistent in the home and away season. The Blues’ key forwards duo in Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow will need to be at their best to overturn this statistic this evening, while welcoming back Patrick Cripps and Sam Docherty from injury will also help.
Sydney’s offence is ranked seventh in the league, and their defence is ranked eighth. They have struggled at the MCG this year, winning just one of their three games at the venue.
The Swans’ midfield is their strongest area, and they will need to control the ball to win the game. Sydney also has a wealth of finals experience, with Luke Parker alone having played in 22 finals.
Ultimately, this match will be decided by which team can execute their game plan better. Carlton will need to ensure they are at their best to overturn their poor recent record against the Swans; however, I believe the Blues will get it done and advance to next week’s semi final against Melbourne with a four-point win.

Greater mindfulness should help to avoid that mistake in future.

Sorry Don, I forgot your take on any game of footy is the only correct one. My mistake.

You might have “thought” that but your perceptions are about as accurate as your commentary on Port Adelaide’s season.

Yep, they were, but outside of a 25-minute blitz in the second quarter, I thought Sydney were on top, just couldn't convert a few easy chances. FWIW, I'd have Melbourne winning by 2-3 goals based on this weekend.

Definitely one-eyed! But alas, referring to the Blues, too.

Pies and Pies? And you claim you aren’t one eyed!

Wicks always misses key shots, especially set kicks. He will replaced by Jacob Konstanty next year …

You’re kidding! The umps were obviously on Carrrrllllton early on. They never blew one holding the ball against them all night! Gotta have all those loyal Blues fans $$$ who came out of the woodwork after hiding for the past decade, out last night …

Absolutely, Curnow & Big H kicking goals in tandem will help the collective. All the best

Surely Van Rooyen will be out for the elbow on McStay?

Pies and Pies both played finals footy - they did what they needed to when they needed to. Easier to defend a lead than play catch up. Both Melbourne and the Swans allowed the game to slip away in the first half.

You'd struggle to make that argument. Sydney was playing catch up all night. Carlton will take the Blues by at least 4 goals.

Sydney got rub of green tonight - Carlton stonewalled em. And will be better for the run- blew some bye cobwebs out .

They might kick more goals next week with McKay not there.

Who kicks Melbournes goals ? Vanrooy gone - fridge got the yips - I agree Sydney played well tonight, but they are booking holidays - Carlton roll on- the better side won .

They at least won’t be able to self-sabotage in front of goals next week without Harry McKay on the field.
