The Fremantle Dockers return to Optus Stadium to host the Richmond Tigers in a Sunday afternoon clash. Join The Roar for all the action with live scores and a blog of the match from 5:20pm AEST.

Last Sunday afternoon, Fremantle fell short in a highly contested and incredibly low-scoring match against the Adelaide Crows.

The scoreline at half-time wasn’t pretty: 1.6. (12) to 2.2. (14), and it was the Crows who broke open the scoring-draught with a little bit of Fremantle carelessness and some help from the umpires.

Fremantle hit back in the final term, but were never able to put themselves in front and lost by 17-points when the final siren sounded.

Richmond also lost in Round 7, receiving a 47-point thumping in Saturday night clash with the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

After a tight first half – the Tigers even led at the first change – the Bulldogs piled on five goals in a row in the third term and a further three in the last, to take a convincing victory.

The Tigers are in a tough position; missing some key players they are vulnerable.

Beaten in the air single-handedly by Aaron Naughton, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick suggested even “Jesus Christ… would’ve struggled on him.”

They’re still in a very good position at four wins and three losses, but it is a very tight race around the top eight at the minute.

Fremantle have made just a single change for the clash. Cam McCarthy has been omitted after a quiet showing last weekend, versatile tall Brennan Cox is into the side.

Richmond have been forced to make two changes through injury.

Daniel Rioli is out with a corked quad and general soreness, while Nick Vlastuin will miss with a rolled ankle.

Defender’s David Astbury and Ryan Garthwaite take their places in the line-up.

These two teams last met in round seven, 2018 where the Tigers absolutely crushed the Dockers in a 77-point victory at the MCG.

Prediction
A year later and what a different story this could be. Fremantle and Richmond are equal on points, and at the start of the round the Dockers placed fifth with a superior percentage, while the Tigers sat ninth.

It’s a difficult one to tip, but at home, Fremantle have the edge.

If Fremantle take the game on, flex their muscles going forward and hold their defensive structure as they have through the first seven rounds, it should be a good afternoon for the Dockers.

Fremantle by 13 points.

What started as an almost certain % booster for the home team against an injury-ravaged visitor ended in tatters. Everything possibly imaginable conspired in Fremantle’s favour, and yet....

The Richmond Tigers kicked away to a huge win in the west, defeating the Fremantle Dockers by 25-points on Sunday afternoon. Richmond opened the game with plenty of speed, kicking four quick goals and getting well on top of the contest. Fremantle fought their way back into it, Nat Fyfe leading from the front, and brought it back to a seven-point margin at the end of the first. An even second term was broken open by Richmond, with two late goals – the first a great mark and snap by Tom Lynch and the second a quick break finding Broad inside 50, who kicked truly – meaning the Tigers led by 13 at the main break. Richmond went on a run to start the third term, kicking four goals in a row and six for the term, while the Dockers kicked three goals, eight behinds. The lead got out to 37-points in the final term, the Tigers really opening the ground up and finishing strong. A couple of late goals to Nat Fyfe saved a real blow-out loss. A disappointing display by Fremantle in front of their home crowd; they were talked up throughout the week, but didn’t hold up against a team who are very likely to hold a place in the eight come finals. Simply put, Richmond were so impressive. Against the odds, away from home, huge victory for Damien Hardwick’s men. Nat Fyfe (33 disposals, 3 goals, 7 clearances) battled for the Dockers, busy early and late, though he struggled to get his hands on the football when the game was on the line in the third term. Jesse Hogan kicked two goals, as did Sam Switkowski, while Michael Walters and David Mundy collected 27 disposals each. The Fremantle defence that we have been raving about were under fire tonight and were shown up by the relentless forward pressure that Richmond has become known for. Bachar Houli topped the disposal count for the Tigers with 30, Dylan Grimes was a general in the backline with 11 marks and four rebound 50s. Undermanned and off the back of a disappointing game against the Bulldogs, Richmond’s depth was on display and weren’t they brilliant. Shai Bolton kicked four goals and Jason Castagna two, in the absence of creative forward Daniel Rioli. Noah Balta, while he didn’t dominate the ruck, stepped up in the second half when Toby Nankervis went off, working Rory Lobb hard around the ground. It was a real team performance by the Tigers, with everyone contributing and playing their role. Richmond’s trainers had a busy day on the interchange. Toby Nankervis came off with a groin injury in the second term, he tested it out before half time but was ruled out following the main break. Jack Ross also came from the ground late in the second term, his foot stepped on in a tackle and an ankle injury ruled him out of the second half. Next up for the Dockers is a trip to Melbourne to face Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night. The Tigers return to the MCG to host Hawthorn on Sunday afternoon. Final Score Fremantle 12.14.86 Richmond 17.9. 111

Don't worry, I'm now reading comments that the person hasn't died. Regardless, it was probably improper of me to bring it up here anyway.

Which is apparently why the crowd is a little muted, according to the fans who are there.

Let's see them manage this against a likely top 6 side then I'll say they are a bigger chance, beating your third side who've been woeful not a great indicator.
