The season will be officially done for one of 2023’s two biggest disappointments when Fremantle host Sydney at Optus Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).
After making the finals – and in the Swans’ case, a grand final – in 2022, both the Dockers and Swans have struggled mightily to replicate their strong form this season, with the loser here officially cooked as far as September is concerned.
The Swans have at least picked up their form of later, and welcome back star pair Chad Warner and Jake Lloyd for the trip west; while the Dockers have Caleb Serong returning from suspension.
Venue: Optus Stadium, Perth
First bounce: 7:40pm (AEST)

Ok, if you say so Don best of luck with your team anyway mate:)

You are really walking away from your captaincy comment into a whole lot of areas. You did blame everything on Pearce. I don't think you know that he led all of last year. I don't think you know the players pick the captain and from your comments about Pearce, I don't think you know how he plays. His speed and his marking are his strengths and now that he is is getting consecutive years into his broken legs, his disposal has become immaculate. You've got this one wrong by a long, long way. Yes, you do blame him for it all.

I never said “ for all of it” just that it’s not working well enough at the moment for freo to be competitive you have a list that has much talent but lacking depth when injuries strike, you paid a fortune for one player to the detriment of the rest of your list, and that obviously unsettled other players. In the end it’s your basket case Don, it’s just a shame that mismanagement in all its forms has wasted this year. A strong Freo especially now-is important for our whole competition.
Don Freo

That's not his leadership that did that. The selection/ coaching panel is in the gun. In what world is an AFL captain responsible for all of it.

Ok if you say so, but he has lead his teammates in to the cellar, as far as his stepping up when it matters, superb is not the term most would use, be realistic Don, something has to change because it’s obvious this is not the wet not the umps not east coast bias, not the injured not the age of players(we all have them) you have to stop with the excuses. HAWKS are a better team than Freo at the moment for gosh sake. Any way good on for your defence of your players,BUT.

But there is the rub, Jackson does not play that well it seams with Darcy in or in other terms plays better when his not. If both played well together more often, then you would think the team would win more often but they have not:) Freo have lost 12 games out 19 so far. It was just a thought I had, not tied to it. A ruckman Delma?

There is another permutation. When Darcy and Jackson play and both play well the Dockers win.

I am sure Pearce is a lovely bloke but his fumbling and inability to take a clean mark or bring other players into the game with his disposals provides all the wrong messages for the team. Serong fits the bill as a clean and effective ball handler and seems to communicate frequently during play but my preference would have been Darcy. He is rarely beaten and I may be reading too much into his demeanour but he always looks focused on a win for the team not just his own performance. Having made the comments above I think the Dockers performance this season goes deeper than choosing the right captain.
Don Freo

He is a superb skipper. That's why he was Fyfe's deputy and that's why the players chose him to lead. Remember, he captained almost all of last year and the players chose him again because of the job he did. Serong and Brayshaw are still too young. They need to be free to just play.

Yep Darcy is good very good but he is not the captain either is Serong or Brayshaw, and they probably should be, change the skipper change the coach and change something/everything and then people will rave, people rave when you win not when you disappoint. The whole woe is us carry on and blaming outsiders for there failures is just not rave inducing.

Yep. Next year now. Our run to the finals was disrupted by injury to Darcy, Cox, Fyfe, Chapman, Taberner, Brodie, Walker, Frederick, Aish, Young just at the wrong time. The least experienced team in the AFL will benefit from this experience. They have won 6 of their last 8 quarters against Collingwood and last year’s Grand Finalists…despite that injury count. I’m really pleased with how they are playing. Not rapt with that abhorrent 12 minutes in the first quarter last night or the second quarter last week but how such a young side adjusted both weeks is really quite impressive. The thing is, folk like you, given to the mocking pile-on, never count. Supporters see what never interests you but that’s why your comments never interest anyone.

Very fast, very strong mark and disposes at over 80% which is elite. Maybe you are mixing him up with Dusty Martin.

Don, Don, Don … where are you, old boy?? What’s happening to Freo as premiership favorites …

They raved about Gawn's game last week but Sean Darcy has played at least 5 games this year with more hitouts, more possessions, more marks...and they passed without acknowledgement from any critic.

No wonder you watch the Tigers games - how good is it? I would switch off from bottom four Freo as well!

Yep he has been Don, I was just referring to a particular passage of play at that time. And he was good, terrific no,terrific was Max Gawn, Jackson’s mentor, last week at the mighty G playing a top 4 team and Winning. Freo has some good players but as a team are not consistent and do not have the depth of players or skill to get out of the cellar. Hopefully Jackson will play in a good team AGAIN one day and not be mired in the endless disappointment of Freos second half of this season.
