The equation is simple for the Western Bulldogs as they head to GMHBA Stadium to face a weakened Geelong: win, or their finals hopes will be officially over. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:25pm (AEST).
Last week’s shock loss to West Coast has left the Bulldogs’ September fate out of their own hands: to make the finals, they will need to best the Cats and hope Carlton defeat GWS on Sunday.
Their chances have been boosted by the Cats losing Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins and a host of others to injury and suspension as they look ahead to 2024 having had their own finals hopes ended by losing to St Kilda last week; though the Dogs will be missing midfielders Jack Macrae and Bailey Smith themselves.

Another aspect to not wanting injuries is a moot point if a team or player aren’t steadfast when approaching a ball in the contest & they pause or blink that in turn can have worse ramifications than going in hard for the ball. :unhappy: Go Blues :boxing:

Almost as good as last week's performance

You have forfeited game prior. Your pigheaded coach Voss won’t share those views. He will say win & win well.

I think Sydney will beat Melbourne today- Melbourne will tank - won’t want to travel 1st week of finals & suit them to play @ G & would fancy themselves against pies. Will mean swans will be in 5 th spot at bounce of Carl v GWS depending on %. Huge game last game of year. Not so confident blues can put gWS away- they will be very desperate. Blues won’t want injuries

I’ll have to get my dear wife to knit me a bluey beanie before the days out. Not sure l’ll find one at my nearest op shop

i have never been there, but it looks like a pretty good stadium now for fans with new stand completed (nearly)

Let’s hope so. Plus it’s beneficial running into the finals with a win rather than a loss. Bevo will be sending Voss the blueprint on how to beat the Giants

Another option may be to allocate prize money at the end of the home and away season based on ladder position. Both a major home and away award presentation and the Brownlow count could be held on the bye weekend before the finals. The steps in prize money between 9th and 18th could be quite dramatic with 18th getting zero and the money to be divided up directly amongst the players.

Everyone seems to be investing in academies now and between that, bidding and free agent compo the draft has become so tainted that it's almost irrelevant. Almost time to get rid of it I think.

The crazy situation is, using simple game theory, no one wants to finish ninth. The answer is to get some game theorists and mathematicians together so they can make the draft more difficult to strategise. Lots of options, such as the Sloan method someone outlined. Or creating a ranking based on results from a rolling previous five years. This would average out long term performance with perhaps some recency weighting.

Thanks mate. How ironic a year to the day we need your club to win when the loss last year got the Dirty Dogs an opportunity to play finals. We live in a sick world of mismanagement :stoked:

Great win, shows heart. Chanon the problem is i don’t want to play dogs. Much prefer GWS. But would rather see dogs in 8.. enjoy the win

I’ve had the flu also but I’ve been relaxing on the beaches of Mykonos and Naxos Greece so I really don’t care.

We were all just watching the wrong teams! The tanking was happening further up the ladder.

Only took half the team and most of the forward line out to help you win.
