Fair enough. If the ball is touched on its way through (from the original momentum of the last kick of the game, without further assistance) it counts as one behind. Makes sense.
This is all from a score after play has ended. No difference if it is a set shot after the siren or a ball in flight when the siren sounds, if that's what you mean.
If it is touched, by hand or foot, team-mate or opposition, that is the end game.
Not true Rowdy.
The rules (16.5.2) states:
A Behind shall still be recorded under Law 16.5.1 if the football is touched in transit by
another Player, provided the field Umpire is satisfied that the scoring of the Behind was
not assisted by a Player from the same Team.
So touching it does not necessarily mean no score.
Once again, millennials unfairly ostracised. :stoked:
The other thing is how does "obscure rule" come into the headline. The headline writer, allegedly a sports journalist, doesn't know his stuff?

Everyone knows that the last action in AF is valid. If the siren goes after the kick, the kick's trajectory is allowed. So if it gets a goal or a point untouched the score stands. If it is touched, by hand or foot, team-mate or opposition, that is the end game. It's inconsequential where the ball goes from there.
-------
To me it was a typical case of a millennial not knowing the rules because they can google what they want instead of being a student of knowledge.
Siren sounds mid kick! All actions thereafter void a score. If it went thru untouched it's a score. If it's touched no score can happen. That's what I said to Watson.

Ok hero. Some of us just watch the sport and don't read the rule book. Never seen this rule in play or getting a mention in 25 years watching AFL.

It can still be touched for a behind. What Stirling said.

If the siren sounds when the ball is in flight, marks no longer count, let alone patting it through. If it had gone through untouched, that’s a score.

I didn't know the rule, but I would have said it looked rushed (after the siren) rather than touched on the way through for a behind. Same result.

Pretty straight forward I would have thought. No way a ball can be assisted through after the siren.

Umpires got this 100% correct. Law 16.5.2 clearly states members of the attacking team must not assist the ball towards goal after the siren has gone.
