Sydney lost COLA and were given a two year trade ban for having the temerity to acquire a free agent.

POSITION VACANT for the AFL’s 2020 season: a new CEO / a newly job-focused current CEO. Essential criterion: understanding and applying these famous words to how that job is done, “You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em / Know when to walk away, know when to run”. To know when to walk away in essence means knowing when to shut your gob on matters which are outside the core business of your job. If CEO-now hasn’t, can’t or won’t work that out, then find a CEO-next who has and who will keep to it.

That's an unusual reading. What's your, "...or else"?

It has nothing to do with how much the club makes. Playing for a club in a time zone 2 hours behind the eastern states makes it very hard to do regular appearances on the footy shows or commenatty spots etc.

And yet WC make more than all of them without pokies WC is by far the most marketable club in the AFL

The Melbourne market is 2.5 times Perth (excluding the pop of the rest of the state which again Victoria is bigger) and all th footy shows are filmed in Melbourne

And Carlton can’t offer what WCE can in media profile and sponsorship deals

I just hope Coniglio comes back to the west and plays for the mighty Eagles and along with Tim Kelly.

I am a blues fan. Have heard very strongly that cog has agreed to move to hawks and Martin to Blues. Not my preference but better then nothing

Good to hear, Macca. Roos is an excellent example. You'd be chuffed with a coach half as good.

Slane - Paul Roos is an example that springs to mind. As for being on board the Teague train, none of the alternatives excite me and Teague has the blues playing an attractive style that suits our list and has the players support, you can't guarantee you will get that from any other option. SO yes I am fully on board and from what I hear the board is as well.

“you could probably roll off a whole heap of details to compare Carlton to the Gold Coast” Go ahead, make the comparison. I doubt you will find that the Suns are having as much success with player retention as the Lions and Blues or that you have seen the same turn around in fortunes as we saw at the Lions in 2018 (1-10 in the first 11 games 4-7 in the second 11) and the blues in 2019 (1-10 in the first 11 games and 5-4 in the next 9) but I am sure you will see similarities. But again you are missing the point – few saw the Lions rise up the ladder coming this year so claiming the blues can’t have success is folly.

The Giants stated in the last week they aren't offering as much as other clubs. It is pretty well known the blues have been banking Salary Cap for a number of years now and have the most room in their salary cap. Also the Giants can't offer what Carlton (or Hawthorn) can in terms of media profile and sponsorship deals. If money is the driving factor, he isn't staying at the Giants.

Fair enough Macca, but you could probably roll off a whole heap of details to compare Carlton to the Gold Coast. Were you also one of the ones who was comparing Bolton to Buckley and Hardwick for a long time, rather than Neeld?

"Neither are offering the amount of money the blues are. So if he wants money he can go to Carlton." Short of sitting in on meetings with his manager and other teams you have no idea, like the rest of us, what he is being offered from whom. All I am saying is that if money is the driving factor then why wouldn't he stay with GWS, as they can offer him a huge deal as well. As can Hawthorn for that matter..

Who cares? Your sooky post was the first one from a Carlton supporter. You'll notice my use of the collective noun 'Bluebagger', which you should read as an all-encompassing term for all Carlton supporters.

It isn’t simply because the Lions have climbed up the ladder, I have been saying for a long time the blues and lions are following a similar path and that the Lions are 12 months ahead of the blues. It isn’t hard to see the similarities though such age profile (there was a really good article a few months back on the ESPN site going through the age profiles and comparing individual players – eg Andrews (DOB 11.12.96) and Weitering (DOB 23.11.97)), recent draft hauls (the Lions taking 4 players in the top 30 in 2013, 3 in the top 30 in 2015, 4 in the top 20 in 2016 & 3 in the top 20 in 2017 (total 14 in 4 years) compared to the blues 11 in the top 30 in the last 4 years plus players like Kennedy & Setterfield) and recent wins loss records (the lions winning 19 games between 2014 & 2018 while the blues have so far won 20 between 2015 & 2019). If the blues land Coniglio that isn’t very different to the Lions landing Neale. So really the question is why wouldn’t you compare the blues to the Lions? But the point I was making is that you can’t rule out the blues for success if Coniglio was to come as the the Lions improvement demonstrates.

Are you fully onboard the Teague Train, Macca? Are there any other examples of a caretaker coach getting the top gig and then delivering a flag?

Hi Macca, why are we magically comparing Carlton to Brisbane just because Brisbane climbed up the ladder? It reminds me of another website that was magically comparing Bolton to Buckley and Hardwick rather than Neeld. That one didn't really end well, and history isn't going to look to kindly on those blind comparisons.

"I don’t think you can argue possible success from a Carlton perspective…" 2018 Brisbane 5-17 89.1% finished 15th 2019 15-5 121.8% 2019 Carlton 6-14 86.1% Currently 16th 2020 ? No team is guaranteed success but the blues have a lot of talent on their list and an encouraging form line so you can't rule it out. "If he wants money he can stay at the Giants or go to Hawthorn" Neither are offering the amount of money the blues are. So if he wants money he can go to Carlton.
