Defending champions the Adelaide Strikers host the table-topping Hobart Hurricanes in the 37th game of the Big Bash League this season. This match will be played at the Adelaide Oval and will begin at 7:15pm AEDT. You can follow it live with The Roar below.

It’s been a season to remember for the Hurricanes so far. Since beating the Brisbane Heat in a well-fought and reasonably close first game of the tournament, the Hurricanes have gone from strength to strength and registered six more victories, and in the process lost just once.

If one looks at a tournament like the IPL in which teams play 14 games during the league stage of the competition as well, teams winning eight games during that phase usually qualify for the knockouts/playoffs.

Sometimes there’s always that outside chance of seven wins going through too, but a side with eight victories is almost assured of it.

What that means is that the Hurricanes need just one more victory from their remaining six matches.

Interestingly, the Hurricanes will be playing the Strikers for the first time, and it could be a big test of how they about their business against the spin of Rashid Khan.

Rashid isn’t the top wicket-taker in the tournament – not yet anyway – but with 13 wickets at 12.07 and with an economy-rate of 4.9 RPO he has been by far the most potent of them all.

Teams have had to strategise around him and often those ideas have revolved around how to see off his four overs with minimum collateral damage and to score at the other end.

That has worked, to an extent, because Billy Stanlake hasn’t found his rhythm as often as the Strikers would have wanted, and the support from elsewhere has been lacking.

The Hurricanes have been aided by the resurrection of James Faulkner’s bowling, which has taken a long time for his second coming, but more vitally, D’Arcy Short’s 368 runs at the top of the order at 52 and George Bailey’s striking at 157 in a relatively low-scoring tournament has ensured the Hurricanes wins.

Prediction
Strikers to become the second team to beat the Hurricanes.

This has been some showing from the Hurricanes. I had predicted the Strikers to become the second team this season to beat the Hurricanes and how far has the truth been from that. The Strikers struggled with the bat and it took a 22-run over off the bat of Colin Ingram for them to post a respectable score. Needed someone else to support him. Nobody did. Then, they threw everything at Short and Wade but just couldn't dislodge them. 10-wicket win for them with many overs to spare.

Amazing. Short not in the ODI side is a travesty.

Nine needed for a win and they get it with Short hitting Short for a four off the fifth ball of the over. What a performance. That's a phenomenal comeback from the Hurricanes loss in the final of the previous season. Hurricanes have won by 10 wickets.

Rashid Khan has had a stinker. Poor with the bat, but that's not his main job anyway... ...but now with the ball, he has just been casually tonked for back to back sixes! Are you kidding me! And a boundary off the fifth ball, off a slightly shorter delivery that's cut away. 17 from Rashid's final over. He ends with figures of 0/36 from his four. 0/146 in 16.

They might be looking to score the runs without losing any wickets now. Decidedly watchful as Matt Short comes and gives away just five singles from it. 0/129 in 15. 26 needed off 30.

Eight from the Laughlin over. Absolutely toying with the target now, Short and Wade. 0/124 in 14.

The required-rate's gone down before six with seven overs to go. And they have 10 wickets in hand. That's how one-sided this has been.

No change in the Strikers fortunes. It started off as a decent Valente over, with three singles from the first three balls and then Wade and Short got the move on. Two fours through short third-man, one a cheeky dab, the other a genuine edge but enough to carve out 12 off it. 0/116 in 13.

Cameron Valente takes up the attack. The match looks all but gone for now.

Yep, thought so. They aren't going to remain quiet for too long. The last over went for four but in comes Stanlake, more pace on him and it gets whipped by Wade for a six! Not surprised at the way he's hammered it. Couple of balls later, Wade crunches it through point and then pulls the next over square-leg. Four and a four. 19 from his first three overs. 18 from his last and Stanlake ends with 37 conceded from four overs. 0/104 in 12.

Four singles from the O'Connor over. Well, they are happy to slow down that odd good over but don't think they are going to remain like that for too long. 0/86 in 11.

Wow. What an over. And Wade's got to his 50 too! A first-ball four followed by a mis-field at deep mid-wicket that earns them another four and then a full-toss that Wade bangs it over deep square-leg for a big six! 51 off 32 balls. What an innings. 73 needed off 60.

Michael Neser comes on and gets welcomed with a four. Full and wide and Short crashes it through point to the fence. 0/70 in 9.1

Doing it beautifully here. This time is O'Connor who is at the receiving end of a boundary. Short tees off a full ball and earns himself a four over the umpire. Eight off the over. 0/66 in 9.

The desperation to pick up wickets has brought Rashid Khan into his third over and he concedes six. No wickets yet, and for now it looks like a canter. 0/58 in 8.

Shot! Six! What a shot... Wade's in form and shows how. Swings his bat from the hip and hits it over the leg-side for a maximum. And then a full-toss that thrashed through extra-cover for a four. A single follows. Short attempts something similar, goes high in the air but beats both the mid-off and mid-on fielder. But off the next ball, he goes for better timing and crashes it through extra-cover for a four. 17 off the over. 0/49 in 6.
