After a disastrous start to the summer of cricket, Australia will attempt to turn things around in a three-match T20 series against India, with the first match being played at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6:50pm (AEDT).
The Aussies will be seeing a lot of India this summer, with this T20 series, three ODIs and then four Tests to cap it all off, so getting off to a good start is imperative for both sides.
Australia also have plenty on the mind. With confirmation yesterday that David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft will remain suspended until the end of their bans, the Aussies have to find a way to win without them.
It’s something they have struggled with since South Africa, losing away from home to England, to Pakistan and Zimbabwe in a T20 tri-series, then away from home in a Test match drubbing against Pakistan.
Their limited overs form at home against South Africa, where they lost the ODI series 2-1 and the one-off T20 in comprehensive fashion on the Gold Coast last weekend is more worrying than anything else they have put up recently though.
There have been problems springing up all over the park for Australia, but it’s their batting which has constantly let them down, with the side struggling to muster enough runs.
To be fair though, in the rain-shortened Gold Coast bash, South Africa ran up more than 100 runs in 10 overs, so their bowlers must lift the game as well, with Jason Behrendorff’s first over of the match just about summing things up.
Unfortunately for Australia, they are about to run into an immensely taleneted and in-form Indian side who won’t be taking any prisoners throughout this series or the entire summer.
Virat Kohli has made it clear his team have ambitions to win every match they play in this summer and as the best batsman in the world, he will be undoubtedly the key man.
Yet, alongside Kohli, they have so much batting depth, with names like Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul likely to play big roles in the side racking up a score.
There are some selection questions for India, given Virat Kohli returns after missing the 3-0 drubbing of the West Indies. It’s likely Manish Pandey will miss out, but Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant will fight it out for the gloves. Hardik Pandya’s injury is just about the only blight on the radar.
Prediction
India are in fine form, Australia are not and so the result of this, even if the Gabba deck is green and abling the fast bowlers to do their thing, should be pretty straight forward.
India to take a 1-0 lead.

Yes at least first over should be bowled by a spinner when batsman feet are still cold

I think he meant to say any Western Australian.

36 T20I wickets at 21.75 from 24 matches and a strike rate of 14.6 suggests otherwise.

No idea. They won, bowling with a cake of soap.

Finally Maxwell top scores and fields well again. And last match bowled well too. When Langer said that international runs in any format counted towards test selection was Maxwell included in that? Or did Langer only mean that when he was worried Marsh might need his ODI runs to ensure selection.

But coaching and captaincy were poor. 1. Having Bettendorf bowl four instead Stanlake. 2. Not bowling Maxwell, Australia still haven’t caught up with the rest of the world regarding the importance of spin in T20. 3. For the five balls after the rain delay, the easiest 10 runs to get was via the Duckworth Lewis by just not losing a wicket. So the coach or captain needed to instruct the batsmen to knock it around for 5 singles.

Well it was nice to win with our batting for a change. Lynn got us going and Maxwell and Stoinis did a good job. Zampa was great, could have been man of the match in a high scoring game. Stsnlske pretty good too and golden arm Stoinis just seems to get it done at the moment.

The problem with him is,he is exceptional in one match and blown away in another. He can't execute under pressure.

I don't think you have got that right Ronan. Andrew Tye's problem is that he can't think what my 3 year old cousin can think "you need to bowl Yorker" & can actually execute it like my 15 year old brother who can hit an stick with a tennis ball from some distance.

We probably got lucky in the end. India's first match in Australia, unfamiliar with the conditions and nearly chased down a big score. I thought we bowled dumb again. Zampa was obviously great, but some of our quicks bowl dumb. The Indians couldn't have asked for better deliveries to smack over the fence. Next time just give them one of those tees from tee-ball. We have to start looking at getting another spinner into the side or utilising Maxwell. Maxwell was the best of our bowlers the other night? Not used tonight. Maxwell was awesome. Best T20i batsman in the world right now, but that didn't stop the commentary team from picking over his performance. What's he supposed to score at? 3 a ball?

Andrew Tye's problem is that he doesn't bowled 140ks+ like you and your brother Kopa.

To be fair his last over wasn't too bad but the rest of his spell was very ordinary. He just couldn't get his line and length quite right. You only have to a little bit off and you can go for plenty. Tye's record in T20 has been pretty good for a long time so I expect him to bounce back.

What about Dunk, he’s a T20 freelancer these days (He’s already sign up to play in the PSL) If he’s in form I’d have him open with Finch.

Wonderful win for the Aussies who have copped heaps over the last couple of months. Will do wonders for their confidence. Hopefully this can be the start of their recovery as a team. Excellent performances by Maxwell and Stoinis and great bowling by Zampa. I picked a good night to get back on board with Foxtel again which I intended putting on hold until the NRL started again. But I can't do without my cricket. Can't believe there is no FTA for these international matches. Simply ridiculous.

I think WA has some brilliant players. You need to be more specific. Like Glendrew McTye & Sir Mitch Don marshman
