Gutted on the weather playing spoil game in the first T20I, Australia will be hunting a series lead when they clash with Pakistan for the second match of the three-T20I series, in Canberra. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the game, commencing from 7:10pm AEDT, on Tuesday.

Courtesy of Aaron Finch’s brutal counterstrike in the second innings at Sydney, Australia were well and truly on their way to draw first blood in the series.

They had already surpassed the minimum DLS requirement for the powerplay and only needed to bat out 11 deliveries for a result to be inferred by the DLS method, provided there was an abandonment.

However, the gloomy weather had other ideas and a heavy shower came splashing in, a true blessing in disguise for the visitors who were down and out and had been taken to the cleaners.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan managed to put up a par total in a rain-ruined inning. They got off to a disconcerting beginning with a couple of their mainstays getting dismissed cheaply.

Babar Azam played a real captain’s knock to pull the Greenshirts out from further trouble and nurdled his way to a well-made half-century.

The positive intent and an enthusiastic approach to the game displayed by the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam was deservingly applauded.

Rizwan’s strike rate was on the lower side but he kept busy between the wickets and hardly missed a run-making opportunity.

Australia, on the contrary, were unfaltering with the ball as they maintained the pressure and induced false strokes from this inexperienced Pakistani batting line-up.

Following the rain delay during Pakistan’s innings, the Aussie pace battery was right up to the mark and didn’t allow Pakistanis to notch up a handful of boundaries.

Given the wonderful results and a rather settled combination, Australia are expected not to tinker with the playing XI, at all.

The return of two gun players into the side (David Warner and Steve Smith) has brought back the fiery aspect in Australia.

The hosts’ middle-order has been largely untested since the start of the home summer. If there is a rare top-order collapse for Australia, the middle and lower orders are deep enough to manoeuver the remaining overs.

As for Pakistan, it’s all about backing their abilities and playing the situation. The over-reliance on the skipper could be a major concern going forward.

It’s players like Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail and Asif Ali who need to shoulder quite a bit of responsibility to make things more manageable for Babar.

Rizwan showed promise with the bat and could play a crucial role for Pakistan during the middle phases.

Prediction
Pakistan simply weren’t good enough to hold back the assault from the Aussie skipper and if that remains the case for the rest of the series, the two swashbuckling openers would make life extremely tough for the Pakistani bowlers.

Introducing spin early on in the innings could be a ploy to double-bluff the bashing batsmen. Pakistan would need to bring out their unpredictability card, otherwise, the Aussies might romp to victory in a flash.

Pakistan are easy beats on Aussie soil as I said.

That's all from The Roar's coverage of the 2nd T20I at the Manuka Oval. Don't forget to join us for the third and last T20I of the series on Friday, 8th November. Whether Pakistan bounce back strongly or will Australia sideline their visitors with ease again, all of it shall be decided on Perth in a couple of days' time. That's Momin signing off and bidding you all goodbye!

In reply, Australia went off to a flyer before Amir and Irfan struck gold to peg the hosts back. It was at that time that Smith marched out to bat and the rest is history. He's put up a clinic again and his incredibly consistent run with the bat has allowed Australia to extend their winning spree even further. Sixth win on the trot for them and they are looking more ominous than ever. There were slight hiccups during the chase but Australia would be mightily pleased that the unexposed middle-order spent quite a lot of time in the middle tonight and delivered well for the team.

I know Warner has scored a century already this season, and that was an exceptional knock in and of itself. But tonight’s innings by smith just felt so in control and a complete deconstruction of the Pakistan attack I think it’s my favourite knock of the season so far.

Pakistan have loads of soul-searching to do. 150 was never going to be enough on this track with this Australian line-up to bowl to. But at one stage, even 130 was looking out of reach for this dampened Pakistan batting line. Iftikhar Ahmed came in and struck some lusty blows to rescue them but only temporarily.

So, Australia have wrapped it up in fine style. Steve Smith, the chief of the chase. He looked unbelievably flawless tonight and ripped open the opposition's tactics. An absolute masterclass would be an understatement. With this, Australia have won their first T20I against Pakistan in seven matches, the last of which came back in Harare in the tri-nation series.

Australia have won by 7 wickets with 1.3 overs to spare and they go 1-0 up in the series.

Wide of off stump, swirling away from Turner, he jabs his bat at it and a misfield at backward point take the Aussies over the line.

Amir wanted that wide there. Interesting over from Wahab earlier too.

Fuller delivery on middle and legstump line, clipped away with ferocious power and collects one.

Attempted bouncer but it is too high and accurately given as a wide. Australia just two runs away now.

Amir to bowl his last over. Speared down the legside as Smith looks to shovel it away.

Four! Now that's more like Smith. Just a domineering extension of the arms as he lofts this full delivery over the offside and takes Australia ever so close to victory.

Geez, he has got this off the inside half of the bat and it still runs away for four! Short-pitched stuff from Wahab, Smith backs away and looks to scoop it over thirdman, gets it from the inside cut of the blade and evades short fine leg instead and races away for a boundary. Smith can do no wrong!

Fuller from Wahab, Smith drives it on the up over the bowler's head and collects two to the left of wide long on.

Slower delivery outside the offstump channel, Smith misses out on his backfoot-punch as it dies through to the keeper.

Wahab to Turner, serves up a bunger first up, Turner prods it into the offside and sets off for a quick single. Would have been curtains for him had Zaman hit at the non-striker's.

Goodness me, he is pulling out all quality strokes from his textbook now. Square drives this fuller length delivery over backward point off the backfoot and there is no stopping that. What a flourishing finish to the over for Australia. Over 17 Australia 3/136
