Queensland continues hosting white-ball games during the Aussie international summer as Australia face off against West Indies in the second T20 live from the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:10pm AEST.

West Indies showed in patches that they are a dangerous side with the bat. Their biggest problem is their inability to rotate the strike against spin/post-powerplay overs. It took them 52 balls after the powerplay ended in order to hit a boundary.

They’ll be wanting to bat smarter at the Gabba and show improvement in that aspect of the batting department. They will also need someone from their top four to bat for long periods and get a 50-plus score like Aaron Finch did for Australia.

Improve the dot ball percentage and that could go a long way to victory and levelling the two-match series.

The likes of Evin Lewis and Akeal Hosein should come into the Windies side to strengthen their line-up.

Just like the West Indies, Australia will need to be smarter with the bat. They were guilty of not respecting the opposition bowlers enough and going ultra aggressive in situations that did not require that.

Matthew Wade will not be able to bail the Aussies out every single time, and the Aussie top four need to apply some batting smarts at the Gabba.

Mitchell Starc’s form will be a worry, and he could possibly be demoted to bowl his first over later into the bowling innings instead of opening the bowling.

Prediction

Both sides were unsure of what to expect on a two-paced wicket at Gold Coast with the pitch being used for the first time since the AFL season ended. However, there is more clarity on what to expect at the Gabba, with the ground having hosted so much international cricket.

Both sides will want to bat first, and get a score of 190-200 to set the tone on a better batting wicket. While I expect the West Indies to play better across 40 overs, Australia will emerge victorious.

Well then, West Indies just weren’t in the run chase. They looked good in clumps but not enough to genuinely threaten Australia. That being said, they will have learnt a lot from this two match series. Australia – experimented throughout this series and won on both occasions. I think Australia know what their World Cup XI is, but are experimenting to have plan B and C ready in case things go awry. Thank you everyone who tuned in. Enjoyed doing these two games. Australia (bar the main quicks) will fly off to Perth to take on England before they go to Canberra (where the main quicks will be back in action) to complete the three match T20 series. Take care everyone, enjoy your weekend and goodnight.
