The ninth Big Bash League season comes down to this: the Sydney Sixers hosting the Melbourne Stars at the SCG on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:15pm AEDT.

A 56-match regular fixture and five-game finals series wraps up tonight, and for the first time two teams will meet for a fourth time in a season.

The Sydney Sixers have had an eight-day break to prepare for their home final after beating the Stars by 43 runs last Friday.

In a dominant display on the MCG the Sixers put 142 runs on the board, which seemed a little short, but they followed up by taking ten wickets to bowl Melbourne out for 99 runs in 18 overs. The bowling attack will have to fire again tonight for the Sixers to get the job done.

Melbourne earnt a second chance by finishing at the top of the table, and they responded well, defeating the Sydney Thunder by 28 runs on Thursday night to move through to the final.

Marcus Stoinis and Nick Larkin starred with the bat, scoring 83 runs each, while Haris Rauf once again struck with ball in hand.

The Sixers have not made any changes to the squad that beat the Stars in the qualifier last Friday night at the MCG.

Melbourne has made one change, with Jonathan Merlo joining the squad to replace Dilbar Hussain.

The rain predicted could put a dampener on tonight’s affair, with a high chance of heavy showers predicted all day and up to 80mm expected.

The DLS method will be used if a shortened game is required, which means both sides must bat for five overs for a result. If the game is washed out, the Sydney Sixers will be awarded the BBL|09 champion trophy as hosts of this final.

The four BBL finals played this season have been won by the team batting first, supporting the belief that runs on the board in a final is crucial.

Prediction
The Stars showed on Thursday that they can get the job done in a final. They might have choked in the first, but they redeemed themselves in the second.

In a reduced-overs match, as we are likely to get, anything can happen. However, it’s hard to go past the form of the Sixers over the month. They have won their past five matches, which include two against Melbourne.

Sydney Sixers to win.

Follow all the action on The Roar from the first ball at 7:15pm (AEDT).

Not a fizzer at all. I think the people talking about it like it was a fizzer just wanted the Stars to win.

Thanks for following The Roar's coverage of the ninth Big Bash League season, and the final tonight between the Sixers and Stars. Certainly appreciate having some great input throughout the summer of cricket and have enjoyed providing live blogs throughout the season. That's all from me tonight. The summer of cricket continues with The Roar's coverage of the Australian Women's T20 World Cup campaign later this month.

Congratulations to Sixers on an emphatic win be it only 12 overs. Hopefully CA learn something from this. Would have been very disappointing to have this washed out after a summer of one sided tests and no international T20 s or ODI s.

Thanks for following along AJ, appreciate it. At least we got a game tonight! Better for the Sixers to win it on their own merits than rely on a wash out, but yes was a bit of a fizzer at the end.

Henriques speaks as the captain of the champions the Sydney Sixers. Rain coming down on the SCG! "Much better to get out there and do some physical work to get the trophy. Thanks to the fans who came out in this weather... I know the forecast wasn't great." Congratulates the Stars and Maxwell on a great season, acknowledging finishing top of the table is no mean feat. The Sixers are presented with the Champions trophy and the pink confetti covers them as does the rain.

Maxwell speaks as the losing captain. The Stars had a great season, finishing top of the standings and with some impressive individual efforts, however tonight they came up short. "We finished top of the table... but let ourselves down tonight" "two finals in two years is a great achievement, and we'll work hard to be back here next year."

Josh Philippe named player of the final. "Two years ago I never thought I'd be up here... "super exciting", "great group", the usual sentiments from a young gun batter. Sixers 5/116 Stars 6/97

A second Big Bash title for the Sixers, they are thrilled - eight years ago they won their first. They'd be pleased they got to win tonight's match on the field as well, rather than waiting on a washout. A brilliant effort with the bat by young Philippe (52 from 29), while the bowlers backed it up thanks to spinners Lyon and O'Keefe (who took 2 each), as well as Hazlewood (1 wicket). Three finals for the Stars, and no trophies to show for it. Another disappointing night for Melbourne, they bowled well and restricted the Sixers to a par total. They threw the bat at it early though and lost fairly cheap wickets, ultimately they left it too late for Coulter-Nile and Larkin to get. Both coach and captain speak highly of the Sixers group, the strength and depth of the playing and coaching staff. They kept a fairly consistent group throughout the last two years, with impressive performances from experienced and young kids alike. Tonight the 11 on field got the job done. SIXERS WIN BY 19 RUNS The Sydney Sixers are the BBL|09 Champions defeating the Melbourne Stars by 19 runs. Final ball, a swing and a miss, Larkin gave it a crack but couldn't find the boundary enough in the final overs to give the Stars a chance. Sixers 5/116 Stars 6/97

Hazlewood to Larkin, goes slower again, this time he pulls into the on side... looks to be bouncing over the rope until a flying Silk dives, throws it back in and saves two extra runs there. Stars 6/88 Overs 11/12 Target 117
