World cricket’s fiercest rivalry renews in Dubai as India and Pakistan square off to get their T20 World Cup campaigns off and running. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).

Political and religious disputes have all but resigned this clash to World and Asia Cups; but such is the fervour it generates that it is almost guaranteed to be the tournament’s most-watched game, as it was in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups. Perhaps only the Ashes can exceed it for hype; and even then, that’s no guarantee.

However, aside from a memorable Pakistan upset in the 2017 Champions Trophy, India have dominated this tussle for a decade, and heading into this tournament as favourites, they’re highly fancied to continue their stranglehold.

Perhaps the most fascinating subplot in this game is the duel between the two captains, and star batsmen. In India’s corner is the masterful Virat Kohli; while for Pakistan, it’s emerging superstar Babar Azam. The former’s limited-overs supremacy is well known: his T20I average of 52.65 makes him the only player in the format’s history to exceed the 50 mark. Babar, though, is third on that list with a more than handy 46.89, and sits two spots ahead of Kohli in second on the ICC batting rankings. He’s every inch his equal.

The old foes will be slugging it out with New Zealand for the two semi-final spots available in Group B, so a loss would leave the vanquished walking on eggshells for the remainder of the tournament. However, there’s more than just the competition at stake when India and Pakistan lock horns: the pride of a nation is on the line.

Well done Pakistan. Great performance. Hopefully NZ can knock India out of a cricket world cup/championship for the third time in three years.

Great job guys. Putting political bs aside, I have doubt if we can win a test series against them even here with our overpaid club level cricketers. Drop mystery wizards and bring back ash.

I can not really understand what is the situation there. Is it the due factor? Taking a wicket seems more harder than rocket science. The mystery spinner should have remained in the net. I certainly can not understand how he has got to play after getting tonked by Australian batters in practice match who are in general struggles against spin.

I can tell you there is no match for this contest in the world of sports. It is something else for non neutrals. A desirable result can elivate you so much, it can change lives, it can kill depression, can inspire you, it can make you overcome drug addiction, and can really pump new life in your tired n middle-age existence

You have to bowl Bumrah to Babar key wicket although Rizwan has been in good form to.

I have no idea what Shaheen said in that mid-innings review, other than several references to "God willing".

Imad with just the 2 overs seems a waste he was bowling good 151 is probly right on par 160 to be competitive.

So hard to tell India lost wickets but they did still manage to get runs . I think they defiently missed out on not playing Pandya ahead of Jadeja I think they could of added a few extra runs. Maybe 150 par score.

How many ramps, reverse sweeps and fly-swats would Australia's batsmen have played by this point?
