After fending off Pakistan in a monumental draw during the first Test, Australia will aim to take momentum into the second Test and take a series win with victory in the second Test. Join The Roar for live coverage of Day 1 from 5pm (AEDT).

The Australians really had no right to draw the first Test, but managed to bat the entire final day for the loss of only five wickets, hanging onto a tense result.

After fielding first, Australia were tasked with chasing a huge 482, and when they were 0/142 midway through the third day, the match appeared to be headed in one direction – for a draw.

In the blink of an eye though, Bilal Asif and Mohammad Abbas struck, removing the openers Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch, and then running through the rest of the order. By the time it was all said and done, the Aussies had lost 10 for 60 and 9 for 42, collpasing to be all out for 202.

Pakistan then added 6 for 181 declared, leaving Australia four and a half sessions – or 140 overs – to save the match with the total being chased way out of the question.

Things were again ticking along nicely for the openers, but then it was three quick wickets and the rot looked to have set in again as Finch was dismissed for 49, followed by the two Marsh brothers, both for ducks.

Khawaja found some support finally in Travis Head, who batted to lunch on Day 5, before Marnus Labuschagne put up a little bit of a fight. Tim Paine then joined Khawaja and the pair batted to within sight of stumps, before three more quick wickets exposed Nathan Lyon alongside Paine, with the pair hanging on grimly to the draw.

The performance of Khawaja was one to behold. Previously with a top score of just 26 in Asia, he hit 141 during the second innings, breaking the record for the highest score by an Aussie during the fourth innings in Asia.

His newfound confidence playing spin, reverse sweeping Yasir Shah with ease, was something to behold, but he needs support from the Marsh brothers if Australia are to come away with the win in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan have issues to sort out as well. They will be down on confidence after blowing the victory in Dubai, and with Yasir Shah bowling poorly, they need to come up with other tactics than “chuck it to Yasir.”

Mohammad Abbas and Bilal Asif were both strong, but they need more positive from Sarfraz Ahmed in the field and will also need to find a replacement for the injured Imam-ul-Haq.

Be sure to join The Roar for live coverage of Day 1 in the second Test at Abu Dhabi from 5pm (AEST) and don’t forget to add a comment in the section below.

Sometimes the best result for a night watchman is to be out last ball of the day - means the real batsmen get to resume the next day from the start. Siddle did his job - - had the Marsh boys come in we might have been 3 or 4 down already!!!!

STUMPS Well, Pakistan have just about evened up the day in the field there, but you'd still have to give it to Australia on what looks like it should be a pretty good pitch to bat on after the new ball has worn away. With Sarfraz and Zaman both scoring 94, putting on a critical middle order partnership, the hosts managed to end up with 282. If Australia were offered that before play, they would have taken it ten times out of ten. Yet, after having them 5 for 57, they would have wanted things to wrap things up a lot quicker than they did. Australia, in reply, have already lost two wickets. Usman Khawaja was out, caught down the leg side, before Peter Siddle was out LBW on the final ball of the day. They are two down, and the pressure will be on the Marsh brothers, but if you were picking a dressing room to be in, you'd take the Aussie one at the moment. Over: 7 Australia: 2/20 Trail by: 262

Very good day for Australia, they're right in this despite suffering the major disadvantage of losing the toss.

WICKET! Peter Siddle, LBW Mohammad Abbas 4 (10) Well, the swing looked a lot sharper in real time there. Slow it down and it looks worse. Siddle's best hope is umpires call. But no, he won't get that. It's hit the leg stump! Siddle won't be back tomorrow, but I suppose from an Aussie perspective it's only a tail-ender and not Finch. Over: 7 Australia: 2/20

REVIEW Final ball of the day. It swings into the pads of Siddle and there is a huge LBW shout. This looks close, but might have been doing too much down the leg side. Sarfraz wants to review though despite a shake of the head from Abbas. Over: 6.6 Australia: 1/20

That's poor from Abbas in the final over of the day. Short, wide. Any other day, it's cut to the fence. Here, it's left alone by Siddle. Two balls left. Over: 6.4 Australia: 1/20

Well wide of the off stump from Abbas here. Some good carry, but it's not helping him or Pakistan if Siddle is able to leave. Over: 6.2 Australia: 1/20

Short ball from Abbas here. A good one as well, but Siddle manages to get out of the way. Over: 6.1 Australia: 1/20

Finch defends out the over, the last flatter and faster at the pads of Finch who defends it away into the leg side. One over to go. The plan now will be for Siddle to get through six balls. Over: 6 Australia: 1/20

Yasir to continue at Finch. He leaves the first one alone, then defends a full one off the back foot a little bit dangerously. Over: 5.2 Australia: 1/20
