After being bowled out for just 112 on day one of the third Test against India, England needed an early breakthrough and they thought they had it.
Fast bowler Stuart Broad found the edge of Shubman Gill and Ben Stokes felt that he had cleanly taken the catch. Gill stood his ground and the umpire went upstairs with a soft signal of out.
However, it took the third umpire just seconds to rule that the ball had brushed the ground and overturned the decision.
Stokes and the rest of the England team were livid at the ruling.
Commentator and former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said the evidence was clear that Stokes did not take the catch.
What do you think Roarers?

Stop dredging up pre-WW2 England.

You know when you take a catch. Look at Stokes facial expression.

Waugh claimed a catch early in his international career that wasn't. It to quite s few years for me to warm up to him.

If Ben Stokes says he caught it, then he caught it. An Englishman's word is his bond.

Broad has less integrity than Root.

....disgraceful ....pathetic .....terrible You need to seek anti venom buddy. Or take a trip to Syria.
I hate it...Even the News tells me I have to know something they are going to tell me tomorrow.....If I have to know it why dont they tell me now? Crazy world when the news feels obligated to entertain...

completely agree. The media is rapidly becoming grossly irresponsible IMO
Yep agree...Sadly its in most sports we watch these days and I dont care as much about this type of thing that I used to...Often I get more annoyed at the Media deceptions and overexagerations than the initial players actions...

The game was over in two days. Highest team score 145. Highest individual score 66. India opened the bowling with two spinners and didn't make a change for 30 overs. England opened with a spinner and a batsmen bowling part time spin (no offence to Root, his bowling was brilliant) If you think that represents an even contest between bat and ball then I have nothing else to say. The pitch deserves the lowest possible rating

It's funny, I used to think that way but as I've got older, I've become way less tolerant of stupidity, regardless which country the cricketer's from. Sadly we don't have to look to far to find examples from nearly every Test cricketing nation in recent times.
I guess my point was its so easy for us to bag those from other countries but allow our own to get away with similar stuff.....Many cricketers do silly things on and off the pitch but we are most annoyed with those not from our side....And often unfairly....
Funny how India is bowled out for 37 in the Adelaide pink ball test and thats fine to you but dismiss England cheaply and its unacceptable? try looking at pink ball tests and they go 3 days...Time to use the pink ball on every test as it make cricket far more exciting
49-0 seems ok Sarg....Looks like its easy to bat on...Englands batsman are scared before they walk to the crease and look to be mentally scarred

not so Jacko, I'm not a Warner fan at all. Like Stokes, I admire his talent but as a bloke - not so much.
bernie i dont know how you can claim you know Steve thought he caught it but you know Stokes knew he didnt catch it...That seems to be based on nationality of the catchers from your POV..... I think Stokes instant reaction was that he had caught it....But to me within 20 sec he would have known he hadnt when his emotion settled.....
