Timing of a declaration can be very challenging. Both teams were chasing the additional points to remain competitive in the shortened Shield competition which has been further abbreviated to 8 rounds plus a final. I think the run rate required for WA to win was 4.5 per over which was achievable however once early wickets fell, the target was out of reach.
