James, my point is, we keep dropping players, and replacing them with players who repeatedly perform worse. Work out who the best players are (solid FC record works for me), and stick with them.

Australian Test candidates flop against Pakistan

General, I looked at the numbers on that as well. Leaving out Voges (age related) and Petterson (one off series so far), only Smith, Warner, Khawaja, Burns and Head have averaged anything nearing Test standard over a length of time (40+). Khawaja has been dropped countless times for people who come in and perform worse than he was, same with Burns to a lesser extent. Now Head was dropped during the Ashes despite being the top performed batsman over the previous year. Pick and Stick has some merit methinks…..

Not everyone has access mate. Some people who have grown up in truly rural areas will understand this. ABC radio is the lifeblood.

Sad day for Australian sport as ABC opts against broadcasting 2020 Olympics

I don’t think you understand what that means IAP.

Sad day for Australian sport as ABC opts against broadcasting 2020 Olympics

Just once in this country can we have a debate without all falling into line with our personal politics?? Left wing v right wing. Who cares, is it possible to debate the facts as they stand? Apparently not.

E-Meter, me either. However I’ve never watched Gardening Australia either, but understand others do and they seem to like it and therefore I am happy to let them have their fun.

Clubs might well “shop around” a player, but the player has the right to stay and see out the contract, they cant just be moved on (see: G Eastwood). Seems its only the players who can break contracts. Regardless of the details, its hard to argue that Matterson has emerged from this with his reputation intact.

Have Matterson and Mitchell ultimately cost themselves money?

Yes, its strange how some guys get an extended run, while others don’t. I am a fan of T Head, but think that Burns has a slightly better technique and would be a better option at 5/6. Yet we may have the situation where neither of them are picked…..

Five-way battle for two Test batting spots

Yes DT I agree, over the last decade that has been the case. He has been treated poorly in my opinion. I guess I’m referring to just this current period of time, where I feel JL in particular would like UTK in the side, but is just waiting on that big score to justify including him.

Five-way battle for two Test batting spots

Assume you are referring to Matterson here. No one would begrudge him chasing the coin if he was at the end of his contract and looking for a better deal. He was in his first year of a 3 year deal. That has to have an effect on his reputation.

Have Matterson and Mitchell ultimately cost themselves money?

Yes of course, its always the media’s fault.

Have Matterson and Mitchell ultimately cost themselves money?

Ronan, my feeling has been the selectors are just waiting on Khawaja to make a score in the Shield so they can pick him. We know his record in Aust is pretty good, despite last summers poor showing against India when needed. He just hasn’t made that score. If he scores well in this match, I think he will get the nod.

Five-way battle for two Test batting spots

Agree. Cricket more than any other sport needs a decent sample size. A dodgy LBW decision or being run out by a team mates poor judgement might cost someone a Test spot.

Five-way battle for two Test batting spots

That’s exactly what I thought when I read his comment……

The policy isn’t there to stop bad headlines, or criminal behaviour. Its there to ensure people charged with serious criminal offences, are not playing in the main prime time game on the weekend, being cheered for scoring a try, or pulling off a massive hit. Thats not great for the game, the broadcasters or the sponsors.

I see its just me that can’t read “bat off” without giggling like a school girl.

Formidable Australia A squad named ahead of Test summer

I agree. Agar may not be the greatest option at the moment, but he is still young, and should be giving opportunities to show us what he can do at the level, against quality International opposition.

Formidable Australia A squad named ahead of Test summer

Correct Rob. That FTA coverage is worth millions to the Broncos. While all teams have to conform to the salary cap, that extra coverage is gold in terms of building the club, not to mention attracting the dreaded third party deals.

And that’s before we even look at 5 day breaks, which I think has the broncos at the right end of that list as well. With zero!

A level playing field??

NRL free-to-air fixtures for 2020: Where does your team sit?

I thought he should have played the “Peter Siddle Tests” in the Ashes. Would have gone OK in my humble opinion, and given him a real shot this summer. Given he didn’t play in England, he probably needs an injury or two to some others to get his shot at it. I like him though, think he would do well, esp at the Gabba, and in any D/N tests.

Why Michael Neser must play in the first Test

well said.

Was David Warner's century a good omen or a false dawn?

Thanks Ben, good points. For what its worth, I don’t mind Stroll either.

Surprised you didn’t mention Ferrari. Despite starting 1 and 2 on the grid, and with a fast car, they somehow conspired to lose the race. Its been the best part of two years now that Ferrari seem to be able to blow a really good chance.

And on 2021, I’m not holding my breath that the racing will be that much better, but am hoping that the Merc dominance comes to an end. It seems that serious regulation changes are the only thing that will do it.

Five talking points from the Mexican Grand Prix

Agree Damo, the Leclerc v Vettel dynamic is enough to keep me watching. I want Ferrari to challenge the Mercs (I think we all do), but there is still some pleasure in watching them balls it up time and time again. Team orders will be issued and ignored before the season is over….
