The Brisbane Broncos and Canterbury Bulldogs do battle for the second time in 2022 at Suncorp Stadium in Round 7 NRL action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.55pm AEST.

With just three wins between in 2022, the Broncos and Bulldogs will be far from the marquee game of Round 7 in the NRL. Frankly, the blue and whites have been below ordinary across the past six weeks and despite a few moments of promise, Brisbane have been only slightly better and sit just two rungs higher than the bottom of the ladder Dogs entering this weekend.

That said, there is plenty to play for and both sides will feel a win is more than possible considering the state of the opposition. Canterbury enter the match with growing injury concerns and a few additional players potentially unavailable thanks to a COVID spread with the group.

That situations could see, Jake Averillo Ava Seumanufagai and Brent Naden all out of the Bulldogs squad and with a number of players already absent through injury, the club may be required to request special permission from the NRL in order to assemble a full travelling party to Queensland.

The Broncos have different issues, with three key changes in the spine sure to cause immense disruption to the team. Tesi Niu’s injury sees Te Maire Martin play his first NRL game since April 2019. Herbie Farnworth comes back in the centres, Tyson Gamble is the new number six with Billy Walters demoted to the Broncos’ bench. Payne Haas returns from suspension and Cory Paix takes over at hooker with Jake Turpin injured.

The Broncos managed a tight 16-10 win when the two sides met earlier in the season yet do look firm favourites heading into a match where the Bulldogs’ selection panel has been under all sorts of pressure.

Prediction
Canterbury continue to live the rebuild nightmare that has plagued their recent seasons. With injury and COVID protocols making things even more difficult than they should be, it is hard not the see Brisbane running away with this game in the second half. More pressure for Barrett as Canterbury continue to be the easy beats of the NRL.

That's a bit harsh, the sin-bin for that. I thought the sin-bin was for foul play not bad technique.

So your greatest comeback is to refer to a scientifically trained chimp that flew a space craft, performed all the necessary tasks and pioneered space travel for humans? That chimp held pride of place in the Smithsonian and his skeleton now resides in the Museum of Natural History. That chimp achieved 1000x more than you could ever know possible. You're greatest retort is to claim I'm a back up to Ham but you keep repeating me! What does that make you? The budgie in the corner singing someone else's tune.

Hi Glory, I wasn't referring to who was in or out but more the enjoyment that I got out of watching that game. Errors were few, the ref wasn't overly involved and effort by both teams was great. Also there were some superb individual efforts.

Broncos seem to be turning the corner, straight into the path of an oncoming Talikai.

I said to him yesterday that 99% of his comments were uninvited or responded too. His reply? Copy it back. Not one original thought in the prik's head.

There are too many key people in the wrong roles, starting with the head coach.

The cynical ruck stuff he learned at the Panthers from Ivan Cleary is what helped to swing the early momentum back to Souths last week and saw the Dogs reduced to 10 men with a player in the sin-bin. So yes, discipline and focusing on the fundamentals is a real problem for the Bulldogs. Like I said, I blame the coach.

Flanagan has been good the last three weeks Need to let him handle the ball a bit more, I think he’s been ok taking the ball to the line which has been my big knock on him previously. The more he gets the ball at first receiver the less Burton has to and the more we can play to Burton’s strength in his running game Too many of those dinky little cross field chip/mini-bombs from Flanno though. He kept landing them five metres from the line but not allowing enough hang time for chasers to get through

Well they have talented players. He’s had 7 rounds to improve and get them playing well together. Anyway they should give less attention to arguing with the officials, cynical ruck stuff and keeping focused on playing football IMO.

If Burton, Flanagan and every forward hitting the ball up could get the ball in front it might make a difference My perfect hooker’s skill set 1) Passing accuracy 2) Engaging markers and A defenders 3) Defence 4) Running game 5) Kicking game JMK gets scores of 2, 1, 8, 2, 1

They should use Flanno's short kicking game. It's a strength and he's better than Burton. He's not really a running threat but neither is Reynolds really. They have finishers in JAC and Burton and Dufty.

He ain't no Jason Hetherington, I'll give you that. Although there are far bigger issues across the park. Burton being the most obvious one.
