Two premiership contenders collide in what should be an excellent exhibition of Sunday arvo football between the Canberra Raiders and Manly Sea Eagles. Join The Roar for live scores of the match from 4:05pm (AEST)

The Eagles and Raiders will expect to go deep into the finals this year, yet neither have been at their best in recent weeks. Manly have made an unhealthy habit of getting off to ponderous starts, and it almost cost them last week before a late surge pushed them over the Broncos.

Speaking of slow starts, Canberra were horribly lethargic coming out of the blocks against the Tigers last week. Ricky Stuart’s men left Campbelltown with a win, but they looked a long way from the premiership fancies which trounced Melbourne a couple of rounds ago.

Corey Horsburgh’s inclusion will go some way to arresting that, and Hudson Young will add some extra grunt to the bench after serving a long suspension.

Manly have lost a couple of important players to the injury bug, Martin Taupau and Moses Suli both out with various hand ailments. Still, they get Curtis Sironen back from injury and Addin Fonua-Blake is a pretty handy prop to bring into the starting side for Taupau.

Team spirit gets you these types of wins and it's a big feature of this and Haslers previous Manly team.

Phenomenal win by Manly. I have to agree with Gus- one of the gutsiest I’ve witnessed. Considering the tempo of the game these days, & Manly playing 2 down in the 1st & another in the 2nd, they were incredibly courageous. Had they not had the incorrect call against them in the Eels game, they’d be atop the ladder.

Yes - but Scott and Cotric were responsible for letting in those two tries and Manly simply sat on the lead - would never have happened with Leipana. Ricky has some real issues on that right side - but you're right - the Raiders should have thrown more at them. But if Croker and Rapana score we wouldn't be having this conversation - we may have been saying Manly were brave but down on troops when they went down narrowly to the Raiders. League is sometimes just a matter of inches (or I guess that's centimetres these days)

In fairness to scott, you aren't going to win many games while only scoring the one try against a team that has injured players in key positions. They threw very little at manly in the first 40 and manly was able to run plays at a known weakness, scoring with a training paddock ease.

The Raiders have some great cattle but they are now looking a bit dodgy out wide which was recently a great strength. Rapana is now a bit of a plodder and Cotric is going backwards , it's harsh but I believe it's true. Curtis Scott was a damaging runner but he has gone off the boil as well. They can bounce back however. It's a hell of a pack though.

Hey Taree - we can bag the ref all we like but the Raiders should have found a way to win that given Manly's injuries. Ricky has a terrible record against Hasler and that continued today. Bit stiff with Croker and Rapana almost scoring but someone needed to stand up when it counted. Hodgson needs to back off sometimes and CNK needs to find a passing game - he can't just die with the ball or cut back into the defence. Some worrying signs but still 14 rounds to go.

Possibly, but they have an even better history of winning against the Sharks. We'll have to wait and see. Some decent fresh players waiting for a game who might shock a few people.

Great effort. A depleted Eagles were meant to get toweled up in the finals last season by the Sharks as well. The team with five decent players and no depth according to the punters not long ago. Still haven't got any depth apparently.................. I've been disagreeing for a long time but I still love hearing it!

Suspect refereeing, i thought. I think raiders were denied a few 6 agains that would have given them a chance to accelerate and destroy Manly. Effort from both teams massive, but canberra were clearly conserving energy in the first half and manly were pacing themselves in the second. A hard fought contest with some admirable hitting but was it attractive football? I'm not sure. If it had gone to extra time players would have been walking.

I bet it's the one with PIONEER stamped across the front. Good win . If Canberra can't win these clutch matches they have no hope.

Appreciate the support HY but I can't see it - no disrespect but they should have burned Manly today given their injuries. But Manly showed some real heart. The Raiders attack has some real issues with Hodgson running around in circles - I want to see George running the show not Hodgson. Somehow they are going to have to regroup as they have some tough matches ahead. At least that is the last 'home' game at Campbelltown for the season (I hope). They may have to rely on a late run to make the finals if it goes pear shaped in the next few weeks.

There you are. A great win for Manly given the position they were in, but I think your guys had a lot left in the tank. Just couldn’t put it together today inexplicably. A blip in what should be a good season. Probably a repeat of last years GF, except this time maybe your lads won’t be robbed.

Yep - Manly certainly have the wood on the Raiders but I was actually pretty confident going in to this game as Manly had a couple out and the Raiders were only missing J Bateman. Manly just found a way to win - but the Raiders were very ordinary. Apart from the win against the Storm a few weeks ago the Raiders have been pretty uninspiring this season. Expect to see them slide down the betting in terms of title favourites. They have a very tough run over the next few weeks also - 4 of the next 5 are against the Eels, Storm, Roosters and Rabbitohs. Roosters and Eels are short priced to make the GF this year based on what we've seen so far.

If you refer to that Manly v Eels game, no touchie has called a forward pass, no matter how obvious since.

Not at their best, but dreadful is off the mark. Hitting hard, making chances, narrowly missed scoring 3/4 tries. With half a foot of luck they could have won.
