Normally, a last-round clash between two teams not bound for the finals would struggle to attract much interest.
However, with JT pulling on the footy boots for the final time, Cbus Super Stadium is sold out – this promises to be a fitting finale to his career.
The Gold Coast went down to Melbourne last weekend, but the 10-8 scoreline was a fair reflection of the game, with the Titans unlucky not to feature in the round of upsets.
The Titans go into this game unchanged. Jarrod Wallace and Ryan James up front will be key, while the clash between Ash Taylor and Thurston should be a highlight. All eyes will also be on Alex Brimson at fullback, with the young star having been a revelation this season.
The Cowboys killed off any threat of the wooden spoon with a 44-6 demolition of the Eels last weekend, with fans wondering why this type of form wasn’t around for the majority of the year. Paul Green would love to know the answer.
North Queensland have a couple of changes, with Te Maire Martin replacing Jake Clifford, while Shaun Fensom starts on the bench in front of Francis Molo. Gavin Cooper is in the team and will be looking for the tryline to build on his record.
Prediction
Last week’s win points towards a Cowboys win, but North Queensland may suffer a let-down after the emotional farewell to Thurston on home turf.

The Cowboys completely turned that game around in the second half. They completely controlled the ruck and deserved that victory. In his last game, Thurston kicked precisely as usual and forced numerous restarts. His defence was also on song tonight
