The Penrith Panthers might have won five of their last seven against the New Zealand Warriors, but the Kiwi side have shown they’re capable of a surprise or two this year. Join The Roar for live scores when the two teams clash at 6pm (AEST).

The Warriors’ near-faultless performance against the Dragons last week was one of the talking points of the round. They made only two (!) errors for the entire match, completing a phenomenal 46 of 48 sets. Not bad for a side everyone had down as easybeats given the challenges they’re facing this year due to the pandemic-impacted season.

Penrith will still be wondering how they didn’t snatch a win last Sunday, with the goalposts and a gutsy Newcastle side keeping them to a draw. They’ll draw some positives from their first-half play, although the way the undermanned Knights were able to come back in the second 40 may be cause for concern.

The Panthers are still without star half Nathan Cleary, who’s serving the second of his two-week suspension for breaching social distancing regulations on Anzac Day and then not coming entirely clean when found out. It will be up to Jerome Luai to step up and run the side in Cleary’s absence.

For the Warriors, it’s probably a bit much to expect another win this week. Penrith are a tougher opponent than the rudderless Dragons, and Stephen Kearney’s side aren’t going to go 46 for 48 with their completions again. Still, they showed more than enough to force other sides to not take them lightly, although losing Peta Hiku and Agnatius Paasi to a rib injury and suspension respectively will make things tricky.

Just dropped in here at half time for the Storm-Souths game. Strewth, I didn't expect this score. Warriors gone from peacocks to feather dusters in a week. I see from the comments that the Cats had some luck, but 26-0 is a lot of luck.

Honestly... the defence doesn't have much to do with this attack. It's been this way in every game - no attacking structure at all, seemingly little clue what they are doing with ball in hand. Goes to show how bad the Dragons were last week..

Warriors play good footy one week, then netball the following week. Schizo.

you're right, hence I'd like the Dragons to take a punt on the Walker Bros.

I reckon you just have to take a chance on someone new. Not an old boy but someone with with a bit of an apprenticeship. Same ole, same ole , won't work imo.

Sorry? How was that not given a try to Herbert? I guess Penrith when its going for yuh, its going for yuh. Methinks the Blue Mountain Boys have used up all their luck this week.

Stephen Kearney joining Mary, Pay and Sebes on the unemployed line soon. With few quality coaches available, one of these clubs better move quick.

Yeah fair call. Regardless of the score though Penrith have been a mile better in this one.

Too much defending with all the rubbish penalties. But I will grant you, they do need a lot more attack.. I disagree about the Panthers. First three tries pure oportunistic. Last one a good one.
