Day 2 of the Rugby League Nines World Cup will see both the men’s and women’s trophies handed out at the end of a hard-fought day of competition in Parramatta. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of each match throughout the day from 11:30am (AEDT).

Day 1 saw all 12 men’s, and four women’s teams in action, with some shock results setting things up for a thrilling second day of action, where each team will play two games throughout the course of the day, before the men play a pair of semi-finals, and both gender have a final.

While Australia look the best team in both tournaments after the opening round of matches, there is still plenty of water to pass under the bridge at Bankwest Stadium before champions can be crowned in each competition.

In the men’s tournament, it was Australia who beat New Zealand in the key match of the day, taking the lead of Pool A in commanding fashion, with David Fifita, Wade Graham and Josh Addo-Carr setting the stage on fire with their respective performances.

The top two teams from the group go through to the semi-finals however, so as long as the Kiwis can get the better of Papua New Guinea, who beat the United States of America, they will still make the final four.

Pool A went more or less as expected, although Lebanon beating France could be classed as a surprise, however, with England hammering Wales, they are going to be incredibly tough to stop if the Cedars are to play knockout rugby league.

While Australia, England and New Zealand all appear set to play semi-finals in the Nines, it’s unclear what might happen with Group B.

Following the Cook Islands stunning upset of Tonga, and Fiji’s loss to Samoa, the group has been tossed on its head, with Tonga, in particular, needing a huge Day 2 if they are to go through.

On the women’s side of the tournament, it’s Australia who hold the inside running, and it would be suggested that they will meet the team they beat yesterday, New Zealand, in this evening’s final.

Great Britain look like they may be able to hold a candle to the Ferns, however, it’ll take a mighty effort from the Lionesses to go close when push comes to shove.

Be sure to join The Roar for live coverage of Day 2 at the Rugby League Nines World Cup from 11:30am (AEDT), and don’t forget to add a comment in the section below.

Thanks Stuart, that was an epic call. I think wrong time, wrong city I'm afraid which is a shame because I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. Wasn't the quality of this womens game tremendous! I think the womens RL is well accepted by the RL fan fraternity & can proudly take its place among womens sports of soccer, basketball, netball, RU, cricket as actually being worthy in its own right. I just think we need to persevere with the 9's concept, perhaps be a bit bolder venue wise & also stick to what it is intended for- development of the game & a chance for minnows to compete on the big stage. Would be nice to actually see teams like Lebanon bring over domestic players. Fiji even included 2 or 3 domestic club players. It seems the organisers picked certain teams based on players based in Sydney, definitely skimping on costs such as airfares which defeats the purpose but can understand on the other hand that its a tournament which needs to build corporate/money wise if there is a chance for it to grow. I noted there were about 10 sponsors incl Coke Cola & Accor Hotels, so hopefully hit the sponsorship mark. Certainly deserved a bigger attendance.

Australia are the men's champions and the Kiwi-Ferns reigned supreme in the women's competition. What a great event it was, with some amazing feats of athleticism across the two days of competition. Australia.......................24 New Zealand................10

It was a great final apart from the rather dubious decision late in the second half. Australia were the better team and deserved their victory. A real shame that more people weren't in attendance to watch the action live but I hope everyone around the country enjoyed the action in their lounge rooms. A couple terrible calls which Australia took advantage of. Overall the Kangaroos deserved to win and were easily the best team throughout.
